    10m pistol range dimensions...

    Hi.

I am new here. (Which is a pain as I can't see the guns for sale section yet)

I want to get back into pistol shooting after many years. (Previously shot full bore pistol and revolver, also .22LR Match pistol)

As my son is now showing a keen interest we will probably start with a budget match air pistol. (If there is such a thing now)

I have purchased a pellet catching target holder and would like to set it up in the garden with the official distance, height etc for 10m pistol.

Who can tell me this information?

    Hello mate
    Welcome!
The height is 1.4m to the centre of the target (limit of +/- 5cm of deviation)

Range should be 10m +/-5cm from firing line to target
Bench is 0.7-0.8m high, with nearest edge 10cm in front of firing line
    Range is 1m wide
Lighting at target is minimum of 1500lux (hopefully you get a nice sunny day!)

    Full ISSF rules are here

Blimmin nightmare finding anything in there. Happy reading

    Hi.

Is it 10m from face of target to tips of toes?

    Absolutely brilliant, thanks.

I searched for ages with no luck.

Oh... and thanks for that link.

We just need to buy a pistol now. I see you have a Steyer LP2, We have been looking at those, really lovely piece of engineering, but above our budget for the first pistol.

    Regards Brian.

Welcome back, don't forget that Kings Lynn has a target club that does 10 metre air pistol, Kings Lynn St Michael, I think they have a web site, you can find them through the Norfolk County Rifle Association website.
Norfolk is quite active in air pistol, mostly through the Norwich City club where I shoot. I have an LP2 compact and can vouch that they are an excellent target pistol.
    Best regards

    Hi Robin.

Yes I was a member of St Michael's years ago, it was a really friendly club, and judging by the contact recently with two members, it still is.

Can you supply details of your club in Norwich? Do they have "air gun only" nights?

What started off the interest was me finding my old Webley Premier which I had coated in ACP in the garage with pellets and targets. My son and I made a make-shift wooden target holder and had some serious fun.

I don't want to spend buckets of cash on our first air pistol only to find my sons enthusiasm disappears, so I was thinking of getting a Gamo Compact, but after doing research it appears owners usually move up to a better pistol after only a short time with the compact.

    Decisions Decisions.

I would like to start with a SSP to keep things simple, but there is not that many to choose from, most match pistols seem to be PCP.

I plan to research Rohm PCP pistols as these seem quite a lot cheaper than Steyr, Feinwerkbau, Morini, Walther etc. But I would think there is a reason for that.

There certainly is! May I suggest that you might be better engaged in seeking out a decent secondhand pistol from one of the other manufacturers. Look at it this way, an 8 year old Steyr/FWB/Morini/Walther will probably last you as long again. However if you are in any way serious you would probably be think about changing a Rohm after a couple of years.

Depends on what you want to spend really on a target pistol and whether to go for PCP or single stroke compression. I made the mistake of getting a Webley Alecto first, however still use on range in garden.
At the club my coach recommends the Baikal IZH-46M as it is cheap and a very good target pistol, (an alternative could be an FWB103). Someone at the club just purchased a secondhand one on here for approx £250, and new they are only approx £400. I have both and can thoroughly recommend them, it is only me that causes the shots to avoid the target!!! However I am now moving on to a Steyr LP10 as it gives greater consistency for me probably because it does not require pumping, which upsets your stance, but it is more expensive.

    Good Luck

I have just started going along to a club in Bedford and several of the members who do air pistol shooting use a Rohm Twinmaster Sport and think they are very good as a basic target pistol.

Several members also recommended City Air Arms in Solihul as a dealer that specialises in target pistols and often has some good second hand pistols as well.

Some of them move back again

It's a nice pistol. Buy a 2nd hand one and no matter you keep it 2 days or 2 years, you'll not lose money when you sell it on. So it's no risk for finding out whether you and your son enjoy pistol shooting.

I'd say there's no better place to start, which ever way you go afterwards.
    New: Hammerli AP20; BSA Meteor for daughter (and rats ); TX200 with a scope on top;
Baikal MP-651K for plinking; and a friend with an Original 75 he doesn't mind me using!

I'm with Defblade here, also there are two Compacts for sale on this site at the moment one at £90 and one at £95. Shame you can't see them tho'. You never know someone might have a solution for that. Mean time you could go here:

    Good luck,

Norwich City Target Club is only air, rifle and pistol. The club is predominately ISSF 10 mt, we have 11 firing points with electric returning targets and two banks of 5 turning targets for timed pistol events. The standard is from national team members to beginners, juniors to pensioners, and we have qualified coaches. Don't buy anything, we have a good range of club guns, including Gamo compacts, FWB 65's and some upmarket PCP's, and there are members with most of the top and popular makes, best to see and try before you even consider buying, pistols are very personal.
Our range is permanant and indoors, based at Wensum Lodge, King St, Norwich, club night is Tuesday 6.00 onwards until 9.00, you are welcome to come along with your son.
If you want more detail you are welcome to e mail me on robin.carter80@ntlword.com I shall be away from my PC for a week but will be at the club on Tuesday.
    Best regards
    Robin

Steyr LP10 and LP2 will retain their value if you buy second hand - so cost of ownership is low as long as you don't mind having a bit (a lot!) of money tied up. Rohm are good - not as good as Steyr, of course, but much cheaper. My highest ever score with my Rohm was about 530, with Steyr 543.

Otherwise FWB 65 - should be able to find one for £200-300 and capable of very high scores in skilled hands. Might be a little heavy for your son.

I personally wouldn't bother with a compact. VERY heavy trigger (can be sorted if you are comfortable fiddling with it).

    Starting

IAs a Newbie myself I purchased A second hand IZH46M from this site 10 weeks ago and find it easily matches my skill level. In fact today I shot a card of 91 with it. In the garden.

I will be moving to a Steyr LP10 when I can consistantly shoot over 90 with the IZH.

We have a very good coach at East Bristol and he always recommends the Baikal for newbies on a Budget

Why was it a mistake Phil. Ive got the Webley Alecto and find it very accurate. Fair enough i have never shot a top end Target Pistol so cant compare but i can get near enough results against the more expensive guns.

    Just wondering

    Cheers.
