Ok punched out card and wad, mixed up some lube and moistened wads measured out 45 gns of powder and off I went. When I arrived at the farm I thought it better to inform everyone what I was up to,farmer decided to come along for a look, popped a cap on and fired to check all was clear and then loaded up my first shot (powder and wad only), now I don't know if it was the grin on my face or the bang but when I looked around the farmer also had a big grin, which was shortly followed by me next. We had a few more blasts then I headed off home still grining. Never knew how much fun I have been missing all these years.
Now just a small question what would be a sufficient quantity of shot and do I need to increase the powder load, any help would be gratefully.

One of the old loads for black powder is to use the same volume of shot as powder.

Looks like fun - just picked one of these up complete with a big bos of accessories. I have never had a muzzle loader before so am looking for a site that gives me some instructions. Mine is made by armi sport and has some pellets with it and also some 45 cal balls, wads and pyrodex powder. Any links for a informative site??

What do you mean by "diet powder"? I hope you're not using smokeless in it.
Big badaboom! (Or even, little badaboom, but with slower shrapnel)
The South of England has 2 good things, the M1 and the A1. Both will take you to Yorkshire.

Sorry for being a little vague what I ment was pyrodex not BP, just starting out so not applying for a BP ticket yet.
Now just a small question was out the other day, loaded up (no cap on) sat for about 1 hr popped a cap on and fired no bang just pop tried again and the same happend, after giving it a few taps popped another cap on and off it went, before I set off I fired two caps off and all was clear, is it possible for the powder to get damp or am I missing something any advice welcome.

ALways make sure the nipple and flash hole into the powder is clear when you clean your gun.

Before you use your gun out dry the oil out of the barrel. And before you load your gun fire a couple of caps (cap off) to burn off any remaining oil.

Some guns only have a small flash hole and are prone to getting blocked. It is a good idea to take a pricker with you in case this happens.

    Good Hunting

Have you patterned this on a big piece of paper, or cardboard?

I tried using one of these 45 smoothbores years ago and couldn't connect. I can't remember which charges I used, but the patterns were always blown and useless. I remember the better ones were with Number 7 or 8 shot. It was the same with Pyro or bp.

I didn't have much success with muzzle-loading for live quarry 'til I got an old14 bore single barrel.
