    Webley Tempest Centennial ETA

Local gun shop that I have my Centennial on order from called today. They spoke to Webley today. They are quoting an ETA of end of Sept. I am not in a hurry, in fact longer the better as rather skint at moment.
Thought I would let people know though.

I have it on good authority that Webley (Turkey branch) can't finish it properly, so they are sending them to BSA (Spanish branch) to finish. But, BSA (Spanish branch) can't quite manage the pre 2006 Webley (Birmingham branch) finish either. So all the Webley Tempest Centennial's are actually ping ponging between Spain and Turkey on HGV's in a vain attempt to get a reasonable finish Seriously for a moment, I have had one on order too (since Dec 2009), and wonder what problems are causing the continual delays . For a company that supposedly has stocks of spare parts and the original tooling!!!!. If my memory serves me right the orignal ETA in the dealers was Feb 2010 ?

I thought they were going to simply be made up out of existing parts (my supposition no inside info), as it was a 'limited edition'. INteresting if it really is a new build gun.

Exactly, so why the delay is the question for Webley........

Here is the reply I recieved from the Webley contact on their website verbatim 10 days ago..... the "not in full production" comment in my opinion indicates to me that they are manufacturing, not assembling existings parts?

The "they hope to have it available" in my opinion indicates that the Webley UK operation are totally dependant on offshore manufacturing / finishing operations.

Start of the reply I recieved after email enquiry to Webley

"The Tempest Centennial is still not in full production unfortunately . After many promises of due dates there is now no confirmed information other that they hope to have it available by the end of September .
I am sorry I cant be more specific at this time"

    End of reply from Webley

    Webley

No doubt if they have a stand at the forthcoming Midland GF, they will take a bit of a grilling !

Wonder what became of their "Paradigm" ?

    Webley

I spoke to my local dealer a few days ago and the word he'd heard from Webley that the problem was with the box!

He does'nt expect to see any new Tempests this year.

The Tempest 'Centennial' is a new build based on the original Tempest blueprints.
The limited stock of existing spares is insufficient for production purposes.
Because the new production is intended to be as close in appearance as possible to the original, delays have occurred whilst minor details are sorted, but, as production is in Turkey it takes longer to sort these problems, as samples have to be sent to the UK and then returned for possible modifications.
As far as I know there are no problems with the cases.

So if it appears next year, 2011, will it be a Centennial and one?

Don't hold your breath for seeing either the Tempest pistol or the Paradigm rifle - ever!
All the signs are just a bit more than ominous.
