    Mystery Webley Service Stock

A few weeks ago I bought a 2nd pattern Webley Service Mark 11 to go with the 3rd pattern one I have. I now have both .22 and .177 barrels so have fun swapping them around.

But that is not my point.

The stock on the latest one is not original. It has a cheek piece and no chequering. It is also superbly made (although you can see how the edges of the grip near the action almost but not quite follow the sharp lines of the original). It is immaculate and, I have to say, the cheek piece really adds to the shooting quality.

Does anyone have any idea who could have made this?

I wondered if your stock was a cut-down Gamo jobbie, like the one in photo one of the link above.
The butt end and plate look similar through my tired old eyes

Hmm - they are very similar and I hadn't considered a cut down version of a modern(ish) rifle.

I had sort of assumed that someone had gone to the trouble of making one - however thinking about it:-

    a) it is an awful lot of effort.
    b) most would go for an exact replica and not add a cheekpiece.

I think you might well be onto something there.

Luckily I am not a purist - I like my guns to be in good but usable condition and can't be doing with taking a minter and thinking every shot is going to take £0.50 off the value - so a comfortable and good looking non-original stock is fine by me.

REMOVE that stock and burn it, burn it now or the 'collector's corner police' will be round to lock you up with George Micheals

I have, of course, done exactly that.

I was just checking that you are a bona fide collector.

("Stroke me stock before you go" - just preparing for Mick).
