I've used quite a few diffenent types of wood finishes, but what is the difference between the various oils, such as Danish oil, walnut oil etc, and actual french polish? I've just done a stock with danish oil (finished it with teak oil), and can't see a lot of difference in the method of application and the final result, than it would have been using french polish.
as it says on the tin I have (danish oil),
A unique blend of natural oils.
And also different oils soak into the wood differently as I am told, also soe give a darker finish to some!
This is the answer I got given when I asked about finishing oils on here!

The reason I ask is this:
The majority of stuff I've done in the past has been with french polish. After the final application, I usually either make it less shiny with 000 wire wool, or more shiny with Brasso (or similar). Would an oiled finish stand up to this "finishing process", or would I kack a weeks work up? I suppose the only thing to do is "suck it see", but avoiding starting from scratch would be nice.
I dunno mate, like you know I have only done my valcun stock and I done this by sanding right down to bare wood with 180grit sand paper, then 4 layers of refined danish oil, and this made the stock shine but it felt soooo sticky so I put 4 - 5 layers of musium wax onto it and now I have a brill stock!
Just wish I can get it blued!
