    Cheers...Eric.
I'm sure that's wrong, all the airsporters are 'E' for 177 and 'G' for 22, the second letter is for which mark it is

    Merc's are 'W' for 177 and 'Z' for 22

It's advertised as a .22 Airsporter so maybe it should read "GB"....I'll ring tomorrow and find out then maybe it'll stop your head hurting.
Mind you...mine hurts after going to see the live "Vampires Rock" show tonight...
    Thanks for your help.

Rang the shop about the .22 Airsporter and they're pretty sure it's WB although it's stamped on the round of the barrel so slightly unsure of the B.
It's apparently a late model with rotating breech and safety on the back...think I'll give it a miss.

That should be this one then:

    ZR - Airsporter RB2 .22 1992-2000

I'm no 'sporter collector, but I would have thought an RB2 would be a nice one to have... end of the line, nice 'martini' type breech design, and goodbye to the old loading tap!

Probably not relevant, Eric, but the South African import stamping was/is a number with a 'WB' prefix, as on this Falke and this one.

In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.

Thanks for that info....seems these serial number prefixes are a minefield!
