Hello,

The stock on my Feinwerkbau 300S had a dark stain on the top of the comb... there when I bought it. I decided to see what was wrong, and if I could remove it.

Removed action, and removed varnish using elbow grease, and lots of wet and dry. The mark turned out to be filler, which had been varnished over. The different varnish had discouloured. I removed the filler, and found three small holes about .5mm in dia, and about 1mm deep. These were not too deep, so I was able to sand them out, using a block to avoid re-profiling the comb.

I then re-sanded the stock using 120 grit, then 300, then 600 followed by a final rub with 000 grade wire wool. I recut the skip line to the stippling edge, thane stained the stippling dark oak. I then stained the stock in a very light walnut. I added 2 heavy coats of tung oil, allowing a couple of hours between coats. It'll need another coupl in a week or so, giving the base coats a while to dry, and in the meantime, I've remounted the action. I think it looks a lot better now.... do you??
