    Load for .36 cal pistol

I've just got my first pistol a remington new model navy in .36 cal in s/st with target sights, but it did'nt come with a manual or any info. So after quizing those who know at the club have gained most of the info I need such has. 16/18 grains load, topped with semolina(powdered)then the ball till just below surface of cylinder topped off with lard to prevent flash over.A little later in the night I was informed that the 16 grain load was'nt the same as a weighed load but differed in some way can anyone shed some light on this subject please.

Most BP and subtitutes are measured by their volume not weight
Had the same remmy navy and that shot tightest with 12grains(volume) HOGDENS 777 fffg, lubed felt wad and ball on top. None of that lubed splattered on the gun or shooting bay when it went off. Real tight shooter. Cheers

Is there a conversion chart from weight to volume for each calibre?

In my .36 Pietta I just drop a semi greased felt wad onto the powder and seat the ball onto that. No need for grease either.

I used to use a .38 cal ball with 12 to 14 grains BP - with wads to bring the ball up

I think the 16/18 gns you have been quoted is too much - I use that in a 45 Ruger Old Army

    Cheers
