Original Model 50 advice and idea of price please

    Hi

My first post with my resurrected id but was a member on here some years ago.

I have an original Model 50 in nice order.
    http://www.rhinomarketing.co.uk/rhin...0/dcp00537.jpg

It has a Bisley telescopic sight and both parts of the lineup sight are missing. At the top of the barrel there are grooves on either side, a bit over an inch long which I guess are to house the front part of the sight. My issue is with some rough unblued metal on the top of the barrel between the two grooves. I always thought this was original but a potential buyer for the gun was put off by this. Can anyone tell me if this crude finish is original and if not possibly suggest reasons why it would be present.

Would also appreciate a rough idea of value of the gun please.

    Rob

Hi Rob and welcome back . Regarding price, wait until hwvixen and/or Garvin happen along, as with Dianas/Originals, they are the men in the know . Atb: G.

The condition seems nice overall but it's not one of the more desirable older ones.

The sights are missing. Because this is not an older one, the bonus it is easier to source a set. Should be common with Diana 35s etc.

The roughed up metal where the foresight should be, probably some idiot owner filed down part of the dovetails so a moderator could slip on, as the dovetail manufacturing process lifts some metal rendering the muzzle area out of round (in a way). Could be smoothed down and reblued.

These guns are more 9-10 ft/lbs than 12.

They are nice but this model is not highly desirable, with sights fitted and muzzle sorted I would say 150 tops, depends on who's doing the buying. I just bought one that needs a full reblue and has some non major dinks to the stock, but otherwise complete, for 125 posted recorded special del bla bla bla so guess that makes the gun cost around 100 quid.

Thanks for the replies and for welcoming me back.

Here are some photos of what must be damage......

My apologies for the quality of photography.

I would agree that 9-10 ft/lbs is more accurate and from memory when it was chronoed about 6 years ago it was about 10. I think this gun is one of the early later ones, if you know what I mean, made in Germany 04 77 - guess this is April 1977, barrel stamped 170051.

Think I will probably stick to my plan to sell the gun as too loud to use in my Coventry semi - got a Crosman Powermaster 66 - looks like a toy but is amazing.

I seem to remember that I paid a bit over a hundred pounds for the gun about six years ago - mid life crisis as father had one of these when I was a boy, although it may have been a Gecado.

Any further advice, bearing in mind the photos and an idea on value as is, would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Rob

Damage is exactly what I expected to see and for the given reason. I would smooth it out and cold blue it, the good thing is that the foresight assy will be covering most of it anyway, so someone who wants one of these elegant guns and is not too fussed won't really mind that much.

Seek out sights on egun.de - full of Dianas and Originals there.

    Here you are:

Those SHOULD be the correct type, I have those on my '67 Gecado 35 and they were unchanged for many moons.

Tip never use any other language than German when viewing Egun, use Google Translate to get you around if you, like me, think "nein" is what comes after "eight"

Same as what he said...you might be lucky enough to find some parts on "the bay" as they do occasionally turn up...but i'd try selling as it is if you don't want it..not all buyers will be so fussy & parts can be expensive..seems daft spending more money on it if you won't get it back...there is also a "wanted section" on here that might be worth a go...i've found it usefull in the past

Thanks for the advice - appreciated.

There is some Bisley cold gun blue on e-blag which looks cheap - may have a go with that.

I don't have either of the original sights for the gun - just the Bisley telescopic sight and mount. For selling perhaps better off selling the scope and mount and getting a set of sights as first supplied.

    Thanks

    Rob
