The recoil on the HW45 is the opposite of what you find on a cartridge pistol because the rearward travel of the piston pushes the muzzle down rather than up. For instance, if you zero at half power and then shoot at full power the groupings drop on the target face because of the extra recoil. An air pistol with a forward moving piston better simulates the recoil of a cartridge pistol, like a locked FWB65 or indeed a Diana LP8.

Not important if you enjoy shooting the HW45, I do, that’s what matters.

Back to the OP: I think the fella wants a hand canon that can party with his bruvs HW45. The Alecto, I’m not sure. Besides blatting is much more fun with a bit of kick.

thanks for the replies but i went to the airgun shop today and decided id just go with something different (hw45 is a tad top heavy for my liking) so ended up getting a s/h sheriden pro hunter with a hawk adjustable brightness red dot sight and a silencer (thought pointless but i like the look however it actually makes a noticable difference in sound) got it for 180 which is probably a bit pricey but hey ho heres a picture

Like the silencer - Like Ian I have an EB22 - I've never looked that hard for a silencer, but can I ask what make it is (if you know)? Ian - do you know about these cans - it looks like the barrel as some form of adapter on it (possibly permenantly attached)? - just wondering 'cause there isn't much room on the end of a std barrel for anything to be stuck on. Target misser does the adapter bit look permanent to you? cheers

Hmm, thanks for those photos target-misser. I've checked the manual (mines a Crossman branded, so relatively recently made, and looking at the impressed writing on yours I guess it is to) and nothing is mentioned about not storing with the CO2 in. I just do as the manual suggest, and put a small blob of suitable oil (I use the one for Brocock BACS) on the end of the cartridge before fitting it. I probably only need to change it every month or so, but haven't noticed the seals degrade so far. Thanks for the update also Ian.

    EB Silencers

Contact UK Neil for the silencer adaptors.
I have an EB20 with one fitted.

Lawrie Amatruda is the man to ask about leaving Co2 cylinders in guns.

No, not bonded, fixed by grub screw, but I daresay you could bond it if you wanted to.

    Nick,

Interesting your comment on the HW45 trigger, just by way of a different viewpoint, I have an HW45 that was given to me as a Christmas present in 1986 by my late father.

I have worked with the available adjustments on the trigger of this pistol and the result is a very precise, crisp, light two stage trigger that to be honest equalled the trigger release on the FWB 65/80 pistols that I have also owned (considerably better than the trigger on an Atomic I had as well).

The other thing, despite seeing an awful lot of shots since I got it, it still knocks out a 14.5 gr pellet at around 410fps.

The HW45 is a great pistol, although powerful, it's not as powerful as some like to think, but it certainly is a high quality air pistol, accurate, very well made and is built of good materials. the Dual Power cocking is a nice feature. I have one and while I do enjoy it and respect it, I do find it very clinical and lacking in soul, I also think it's downright ugly. The top half is way out of proportion with the grip, and what styling touches it does have are pointless and unnecessary.

There are pistols with much less power, less well finished, and of a lower quality than the HW45 that are much more fun to shoot, much more satisfying, or just generally more enjoyable to shoot than the HW45, good though it is.
