General maintenance on a match air pistol

I have a match pistol (Matchguns MG-1E) which I've had for around 8 months and have now put about 6,000 pellets through. Is there any routine maintenance I should consider doing?

I have been told that I should not put a cleaning wad through the barrel on a regular basis.

General stuff for me, and I keep it regular so I don't forget - barrel clean between 4,000 - 6, 000 shots, inspection of o-rings, general wipe down of the metal etc to get rid of dust and dirt - who told you not to use a cleaning wad?

I also check the grouping every 6 months or so - pointless really, but it's nice to know it can shoot better than me :-)

This is for my steyr but it should go for any pistol,
