    Third Eye Tactical Moderator

I wanted to replace the T8 on my .270 stalking rig with something a bit lighter and the Thirdeye Spartan popped up on the radar.
Initial investigations looked good so I went down to EVO engineering to pick one up.

Craig the owner of EVO/thirdeye is a keen stalker and a bit of an engineering whizz by all accounts. He was just reviewing an article on on a buggati W16 motor that had some of his parts in when I turned up

The mod is a very nice bit of kit, and appears very well thought out. It is both shorter and narrower in diameter that a T8, weight is about 250g's lighter.
This doesn't sound much but when fitted to the rifle it makes a big difference both in terms of handling and carrying on a sling. The rifle no longer feels muzzle heavy!

The mod is made from Aircraft grade alloy and is fully stripable. A neat key is provided for this purpose.
Starting at the muzzle end is an over barrel bush (a non overbarrel version is available) and a stainless muzzle brake type baffle arrangement which is designed to reduce recoil.
There are then a series of alloy baffles, all of which have stainless inserts to prevent gas cutting and improve longevity.
The muzzle cap also includes a baffle and expansion chamber.

    They are good.

Whilst I was in Trent Firearms the other day, he showed me one of these. Very nice and very well made, right down to the supplied tool to dismantle the unit.

Anyone used these on a .17 HMR and been able to compare with a DM80 .17 HMR - for both noise reduction and build quality ?

Sounds and looks a nice bit of kit there mate!!

How far over the barrel does it come?

Be interested to see any video footage, if you have the ability to do so?

They look well made, but the weight difference over a T8 is too small to notice. For me the Atec which weighs about 250 grams less does make a big difference. Idealy I would like an Atec weight with an over barrell mount.

Have you compared the two side by side? I have, on my stalking rig the difference is VERY noticeable. The weights alone don't tell the whole story. The size, and where in the mod the weight is has more of an impact. The spartan has very little effect on balance on my rifle and due to being overbarrel I would guess that the difference between the 3rd eye and the Atec is negligible.

Yet again, i have just had one fitted to my .308 by Pete Walker of Walker rifles, he also thinks there very well made.

I have yet to fire it as couldn't get to the range tonight.

Again Craig is a top chap to deal with, he has more projects in the pipeline.

His scope rings are also top notch.
