Nite Hunter lamp& IR illuminator package

I was so impressed with this complete lamping package I thought I'd share my opinion.....

What struck me first was how small and light the lamp and IR illuminator was, it's tiny. The kit comes with everything you need for night shooting (apart from the nv unit) and with everything attached to the gun there really is hardly any added weight, it was exactly what I was looking for. The battery pack is attached to the stock by a leather pouch with elasticated cords which actually made the gun feel 'nicer'. This may be because I've only been shooting a rifle with a cheek riser of late but this pouch isn't noticeable when the gun's shouldered it just 'works'. The kit also comes with a charger and IR filter for the lamp and a couple of velcro patches for the pressure switch.
With the lamp being 6v I didn't expect an overwhelming searchlight experience but it was very impressive and gave off a superb light considering the size of the housing. I fitted a nv mono to the scope and the IR filter to the lamp and again was amazed at the clarity of the picture. The filter shows a slight red glow at source but nothing like my glass 850nm max IR filter so overall I was very happy.
The 300mw IR illuminator is located underneath the lamp, it has a beam direction adjuster and a beam diameter adjuster. The laser is extremely well made and first impressions it seems very durable. The direction is adjusted by a lock nut behind the head which works flawlessly. The head seems to rotate very 'smoothly' in a circular arc until the desired direction is reached where a finger twist of the nut secures the head solidly. The beam diameter is adjusted by twisting the head either way to widen or narrow the beam.
There is a switch to change from laser to lamp instantly and the lamp is mounted by a scope mount although I just used my Deben lamp mount which was already on the gun. Attaching the lamp takes literally seconds.
I tested the kit out on a bit of foxing, I fitted the IR filter to the lamp and used a tubed nv mono. I spotted a fox with my spotter so got into position for the shot and flicked on the lamp IR and nv mono. I knew it was a fox but wasn't 100% so just watched as it was sheltering from the wind just mooching about in rushes. I flicked the switch to the IR illuminator and all become clear, gauranteed fox so took the shot. The ability to switch from lamp to illuminator for more 'power' is superb it really works well. Then trying to search for the fox with nv in rushes is really hard work so off with the IR filter and on with the lamp for the finding of the carcass. Happy to say I shot and found the fox.I've carried the gun around on my back on foot and on the quad and you don't even notice the lamp mounted because of it's size and lack of weight. The best part is everythings attached to the gun so there's no pulling of wires or the need to have the gun within arms reach when you stop for a rest or so close to you that a toilet break causes uncalculated wind splash over your scope. Also I found after a night out there was no need to disconnect yourself from everything, just make sure the guns unloaded and carry the whole thing to where it goes, it made life much easier.
I'd never come accross the nite hunter lamp until earlier last year and was hesitant because I'd never heard of it but I have to say it's exceeded expectations and if anyoneone is looking for a fac air or rimfire lamping kit especially if you're thinking of using nv I really feel it's the solution. With decent nv the illuminator will enable you to see further than a CF can shoot safely at night but for digital nv it's the answer. Everything seems to be going LED now but it's no use when you stick an IR filter in front so it's halogen all the way for me.

I got it from Antoni from http://www.nite-hunter.com/ you'll need to give him a ring on price there's a few option's available. I've never seen such an all round package it's superb.

I got to look at a mates Night Hunter HD last night and compared to my NS50 I was very impressed although my NS50 gave a clearer picture lastnight.

Sooner or later this will be the way I go
