    .22RF pistol

I have heard of pistols having an extended length to their grip, being legal. Obviously FAC but can someone shed some light on this for please. I am only interested in .22RF.
Are these available and what needs to be on the licence and at what sort of price range.
    Thanks in advance

Long barrel revolver (LBR) or Pistol. Barrel is long and there is a dodgy arm thing.

Only you can shoot it (even at a club you cant let someone try it) unless others put it on their FAC.

Look for taurus, seems a popular make.

I think there is a 1911 copy with a fake over moderator to make it look like a normal pistol with mod

And they must be at least 24 inches overall, with at least a 12 inch barrel.

(Really a Thread that belongs in the Powderburners section, though).

You're smart to want to stick with a .22: ammo prices being what they are.

I seldom shoot any centerfire guns, any more: airguns and .22's are a lot more affordable, more pleasant to shoot, and make just as good holes in paper.

To add to all of what has already been said about size restrictions. If you want to go semi-auto your only choice is .22lr and the most popular choice there is probably a Browning Buckmark of some sort, likely fettled by Westlake engineering.

If you go down the revolver route the most common are .22lr, .38/.357, .44 Mag but you could probably find some obscure items like .45ACP with half moon clips if you try hard enough. Lever action guns tend to be more popular as does reloading for the centre fire calibres.

    I reload .38 special for about £3.50 ($5.75) for 50... It's the same price as 22lr

Also milsurp for my AK is currently £7.75 ($12.70) per 50, which also isn't bad

    Paul,
Currently im running 3 Taurus LBR's .38/357, .44 and .45acp. The issue with any Taurus LBR that requires moon clips such as the 30M1 or the .45acp. Is that Taurus dont use standard moon clips or half moon clips. They use there own version called the Taurus Stella clip. It Mic's to a thickness of 0.20 were as a moon clip such as a smith is 0.40 double. This means the Taurus clips have a habit of bending and they arnt cheap. My last lot were £25 for 5 !!!. My advice to anyone considering getting one is to speak to Roding Armoury and get them to do a cylider job on it so you can use Smith clips. I picked up 300 smith clips for mine for $30 from old sarge drop zone. Granted it costs a few hundred to get the work done but smith clips will hardly ever wear out and are easy to get unlike Taurus clips.

That's certainly interesting, Chris. Why would anybody choose a rimless calibre though? You can't put them in a lever action and when you put them in a revolver you have the sort of problems that you describe.

The only centre fire pistol calibre gun I have is a .38/.357 Rossi carbine. It's no bigger than the cap guns I had as a kid! I reckon if I ever got a LBR I'd go for a .38 on the basis that I could share reloading gear and not need a new die set.

I use my .45 for advancing target. Other people I have spoken to with .45 acps usually use them for some sort of practical competition were speed reloading is required. As for .30M1 its a bit of a cross over. With it being a rifle round its good to 300 yards you could use it for long distance pistol.

    Great photos, thanks.

That Uberti Buntline looks a tad muzzle-heavy!

    Cheers Jim,
As i shoot alot of LBR I have built up quite a few pictures of LBR's and info on them. Most people who buy the Uberti Buntline get a rod welded to the grip and cut the barrel down to 12" . Thats what we use to do the the Ruger Redhawk. Ruger exported them to the UK with an 18" barrel and no rod or brace fitted. However they didnt like it when we started cutting them down and welding the rod so there ceased exporting them Pitty as they are much better guns than a the Taurus.

    Chris

This is an original Uberti Buntline
    http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL480.../395857975.jpg

and this is a modified one

    http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL480.../395857976.jpg

This is an original Ruger Redhawk LBR no modification. They are superb but way too heavy

    http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL480.../395857880.jpg

and this is what they are like after modification

I shouldn't have come back to this thread. I'm quite tempted by one of those Buntlines now.

Is there anyone in particular who does them modified to order or do you have to buy them as factory spec and then hunt out your own gunsmith?

    Thanks,
    Paul.

You need to orger factory spec. The following gunsmiths do modificationb on LBRS

Alan Westlake (basically anything adding rods/ braces and barrel chopping down to 12")

Roding Armoury ( Cylinders, timing, trigger work ect)

The gunshop cat hill ( you need to ask them)

Valley arms (again cylider work and trigger jobs)

SYSS use to do work. However I think they only do wrist brace to rod conversion now as there were issues with getting Taurus Spares. Either way all the above gunsmiths are more than capable of puttin a rod onto a Buntline and turinging the barrel down from 18" to 12"
