    Homeloading

    Hi guys,

I'm a total novice to this, just got my 243 at the weekend and went through £75 worth of rounds in a few hours!!! So I am looking into home loading. Does anyone know where I could get a starter kit from as I have no idea what I need for this? And how much roughly a basic starter pack will cost me including everything I need to make rounds?

    Cheers rob

A good & proper set up which will last you all your shooting life will cost £300-400 new. second hand half that if you're very lucky. A cheapo kit which will do the job can be available from about £100 but you will want to upgrade as you develop and the kit wears out or breaks, so will cost you more in the long run.

    Essential

    Reloading manual
    Single / multi stage press
    Powder scales
Die set ( full length , neck size and seater)
    Auto prime shell holder
    Press shell holder
Primer insertion tool (The Lee auto one is cheap and fine)
    Powder trickler
    Neck chamfer tool
    Vernier gauge / digital
    Case Lube
Reloading racks (holds cases upright – you need two – frankford are good)
    Cleaner for primer pockets
Powder funnel for the caliber you load
Ammo box (s) for loaded rounds
    Neck brush
    Case length trimmer
    Lee powder scoop
Reloading record book……..(keep when , how many, what powder, OAL and bullet type – any A5 style book…)

Nice to have but you can do without at a push is a case tumbler or ultrasonic cleaner

Plenty can be bought second hand, on average you can expect to pay 300-600 for NEW dependant on the quality but i'd say but a decent strong press such as a rock chucker and RCBS dies. Lee can be regarded as "cheap" but some of their stuff is good and will do the job nicely and save you a few quid too. Avoid their scales !! RCBS 502's are very good but above all READ , READ and read some more as knowledge is power especially when it comes to reloading.

Won't save money. YOu'll end up getting more into it and it'll cost you more in the long run as you accumulate kit for yet another aspect of the sport.

rcbs rockchucker kit would be a nice buy. cost abit but will last a life time.

i would also look how much you could get it from the USA for. and work out if it would be cheaper or not by the time you pay shipping and tax etc...

if you want to buy from here try reloading solutions Aftab the owner there will give you some advise on what to buy if you tell him what your what your needs are.

he is a nice honest guy and wont look to sell you the dear stuff just to get the most money out of you.

if you are a benchrest shooter then fine, you could buy all that kit.
if you shoot a few deer and fox and the rest on the range then you can save money and make decent rounds

I followed this and it works!
