Sightron SIII 8-32x56 LRTD

Just been lucky and picked up a second hand (as new) 8-32x56 S111 LRTD/TDT.

This appears to be very popular with my lot (F Class club) and I got this to go onto a fairly standard .308, it will later go onto a dedicated F/TR rifle.

I have not actually got out and used it yet, other than picking the rivets out on a pylon 3/4 of a mile away...ruddy hell!!

Yes, there is some colour edge fringeing, but this will be used exclusively for target shooting, and having used one on the range I was very inpressed.

A quick word with John from AIM confirms that the lifetime warranty still stands, so happy days.

I have been using an MTC Viper that has served me extremely well, and will be a keeper...particularly as it was sent back to me as being U/S..but against the tiny targets used in F Class you need the greater mag and fine target dot ret to be competitive.

I am told you can see bullet holes at 600....I will let you know.

The bottom line seems to be that for many (including Russel Simmonds, world F/TR champion) Sigtron SIII series scopes are up there with the big numbers, and this model in particular.

I agree about the colour fringing but it is pretty minor and I'd rather have that and world class resolution, rather than no fringing and average resolution, for sure.
They're certainly making moves on the target scene and well-deserved too

Starting to think, could i have a dud ? its still very good but most people are saying its better than what i have seen.
SIIISS 8-32x56 LRMOA is the one i have and i have a 8 year old leupold 6-20x50 vermint vxiii and as far as the glass i would say they are the same may be the leupold better just. The resolution on the leupold is very good ones agane about the same as the sightron, and at 20x mag the sightron in no briter than the leupold .the image soon dulls of on the sightron over 20x mag also the parolax nob on the sightron is stiff .
I still like the sightron scope but people are saying its a lot better than a leupold but not here . Could i have a realy good leupold ? or a poor sightron?

Well maybe your leupold is good, but really they can't be compared as L don't make a 8-32....a 6-20 is a different beast - it's not even 4x mag range....So it's an unfair comparison really. I also think that sometime I freak myself out comparing my new scope to my old scope side by side. Just shoot the new one for a few weeks in the field and then you'll get a proper feel for it.

yes you are right i will give it time as i have not long had it i could be just to quick to judge . I did always test with them on the same mag . I do think I do have a very good leupold not seen thro a better one. It's just when i see on here some one say "you are stepping a million miles up from 4200/6500, Nikon monarch, Leupold etc for very very reasonable money." but this at the moment is not quite true for me but like you say start using it it may blow me away with how good it is.
I have looked thro scopes before that look good but then on the range they star to not look so good
A fiend had a hawke fronter 6-24x50 (budget scope i know )and thet looked about as good as my leupold just a quick look thro the window but on the range the leupold was miles better.

Honest answer Strud, probably neither mate.

The optics of the Leupy might just suit you better mate.

In some conditions you may find the opposite.

All eyes are slightly different. When you get a pair of glasses made, they are made to suit your eyes, and your eyes only. This prescription may change with time.

Unless you are serioulsy loaded, you wont get this level of tayloring off the shelf in a scope, so it is what suits best.

My lot have described this scope as being better than it's 50x relation, some leupolds, and even Night forces, but that is all personal opinion, which is understandable.

I was fortunate in that I had tried one a week before at Bisley, so I was happy with it.

I was a dyed in the wool leupold fan for many years, nothing else would do but i took the risk on a sightron SIII 8-32x56 target dot back in 2009 because i wanted more mag then leupold could offer.
I now have two Sightrons having purchased a SIII 6-24x5o as well.
Optically they are a bit better then the leupold and not as critical on the eye relief, however IMO they are not quite as well made.

had a sIII did not think the optics was that good for the price of the scope compared to the bushnell 4200 8/32/40 thinking of getting a bushnell 6500 4.5/30/50 if anybody as got any advice on this scope cheers
