    01:00 03:59 8 °c 5°c 1.6 mm 87 % 16 mph 19 mph

    04:00 06:59 8 °c 5°c 2.4 mm 87 % 16 mph 19 mph

    13:00 15:59 14°c 12 °c 0.4 mm 31 % 18 mph 22 mph

    16:00 18:59 14 °c 7°c 2.0 mm 66 % 17 mph 20 mph

    19:00 21:59 10 °c 6°c 1.3 mm 99 % 17 mph 21 mph

    22:00 0:59 9 °c 5°c 1.9 mm 99 % 18 mph 21 mph

..... a bit damp, and more than a tad breezy. The latter is something of a godsend and could well add back a challenge to the field lanes which was otherwise frustratingly and unexpectedly removed by our farmer some time yesterday.

We were out preparing the ground on Tuesday evening, expending much time, energy and petrol clearing nettles and thistles from the car park and zero area. We had to resort to manual (with strimmers and a small lawn mower) labour as had been told that the farmer was unable to spare his tractor. Had he been able, he was given the stricktest instruction to LEAVE the weeds at the north end of the field, which had some wonderful groundcover in which to bury targets.

Went back last night to find that the farmer did find the time, and in fact found time to ignore/forget out request and had mown the entire field , resulting in a very peed off Biggles.

Never mind. As long as he doesn't return today or tomorrow and take a crew with hymac and chainsaws to the woods (which he did the year before last; again without telling us and just two days before a comp !), those 20 lanes will be somewhat more 'interesting'.

Course setting tomorrow, hopefully in the dry. If any Swallows members happen to be reading this, and not already enrolled in the set-up team, please do join us - starting around 09:00.

For the rest of you SIHFT club members, see you on Sunday . Please remember that booking-in commences at 9:00, kick-off around 10:00, and you MUST be there for the safety briefing (09:50ish) if you wish to shoot.

Spongey's crystal ball has a chip in it and it gives silly predictions

Perhaps he should use the other one

    Weather update

Notwithstanding the prospect that it can always change ......

..... it's looking like dry days, both for course setting (which I'm off to do very shortly) and for the comp itself. Hurrah

Chance of fair amount of damp overnight, so the ground could well be a bit soggy. But probably not sufficient to close up some of the large cracks which have appeared in the field as a result of the incredibly dry spring. Please watch out for these; some large enough to loose small people down , and certainly enough to twist an ankle.

It's almost certain to be BREEEEEZY. Gusty and mid strength north east to easterlies forecast are bound to make the field targets 'interesting', and the probability of a repeat of the clear rounds achieved here last year a very long-odds bet.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Can some of you Oakies try and bring at least your B game to keep the series alive for 2011, after all it is only round two.

    Hi Chaps and Chapesses.

Spent best part of 10 hours working on site today. Now knackered, but full and feeling better after a decent dinner; nearly bath time to wash some of the course aches and pains away.

Course now set, but there is probably an hour's work to do to tidy things up, and try to make sure that any overnight weather has not introduced 'illegal' obscurations.

Should be grateful if the masses did not arrive too early, to give us time to get the final bits in order ahead of you.

If the wind is same as today, it will undoubtedly be 'fun'

    See y'all in the morning.

Just remember, Spongetta and everyone else, Rule Seven applies to all the SIHFT series shoots. BUT .... when Swallows FTC are the host there is a slight variation.

We allow a degree of whinging, but you have to accept that we WILL ignore it.
