    HW80 in .32 or 9mm?

Has anyone tried this? At FAC levels for coypu in dense thickets or for rat in haunted basements?

i have shot a 9mm stealth at 12ft/lbs & it was a giggle, we used a steel plate as a target, PHUT...... .DONG the delay was long enough to reload! I think with a spring rifle you might have problems actually getting the pellet moving to start with ie the piston could be at the end of its stroke before the pellet emerged from the barrel.

It occurs to me you could do worse than experiment initially using a catapult - to see if it's worth the trouble to actually do a gun - I bet it's fun trying to Chrono with a catapult though...

    Hi Alistair

A gunsmith at Bisley built a .302" HW80 in The Airgunsmith in one of the magazines once.

    I've Emailed you a copy.

I still have a .30 HW80 but accuracy was very poor with the dumpy mis-shapen ammo available for it. Perhaps I could stick a couple of wads down the barrel with a charge of shot and see how that pans out.

Thanks for that Mick, very interesting. Bit concerned that the ball ammo 'went straight through the rats' - surely better if it flattened them? But solid ammo is less likely to mushroom than waisted pellets I guess. A solid, cast cotton-reel type pellet should not be too difficult to devise - or use turned-down .32 S&W Long wadcutter bullets perhaps.
