A good UK based supplier is John Muirden at Unbeaten Tracks . The website isn't the easiest to navigate (Vellies are here) but John is a really helpful guy. Rogue Vellies are the most comfortable boots I've ever owned bar none. They're made in Africa and perfect for the climate. If the suede is a bit stiff (they vary) get them soaking wet and walk around in them, that should soften them up.

The Rogue clothing is made by Supply Company (see below). Be careful with their sizing as I found the shirts come up very large.

If you're passing through Jo'burg Cape Union Mart in Sandton City Mall are pretty good for cotton bush wear.

I'm very dubious about safari vests, they tend to be worn for effect rather than functionality

If you want to pick up good, cheap kit AND donate to a good cause try KwaZulu Natal Wildlife Conservation Trust the stuff is made by The Supply Company whose stuff I've used a fair bit with no complaints. They can ship from SA to UK no problem.

Which part of Africa are you off to?

    Congratulations!

Sometime back Cabelas was selling the Beretta safari jacket (something on the lines of what Hemingway wore). Since it has a lot of big pockets it could be quite handy for photographers as well - particularly early in the morning.

    Have fun.
