    Webley 'Nitrile' Breech Seals

Someone asked me about the breech seals for Huricane/Tempest, which also fit all the old Webley air pistols.
I was amazed to find Chambers (BS037) charging £5.88 + postage.

I seem to remember the breech seal on my tempest looked like a small cable grommet. Motor factors maybe!!!!!

Perhaps suitably sized hose from a motor factors cut to length would work?

I wonder if someone could turn and drill some ptfe roundbar to do the job? If the ptfe is up to it then sure a load of seals could be made quite cheaply?

hi all, i make my webley pistol breech seals from a piece of automotive rubber /neoprene pipe[not the reinforced stuff] ,whatevers handy and will grind down to size . thick walled vacuum hose is about the right size bore,i grind down the outside diameter to fit the breech on the bench grinder then cut to lenght...if when cut they are a little too long i poke a bolt up the internal bore so i can hold them to grind a little off the face.i know it sounds a bit fiddly but it only takes a few minutes to do and to be truthful when i have bought breech seals very often i have had grind them to make them fit...cheers..greasemonkey

I don't think PTFE is resilient enough for this use Guy.
