    Valuation Please Gents

Hi there good people of the BBS Collectors lounge.

I wondered if you could give me a Valuation on this .177" Original 5G please.
It was found in the back of a scrap car and the previous owner sanded most of the surface rust off just leaving the deep pits.
The barrel is bent slightly upwards in a gradual bend from the breach block.
But apart from that it fires well enough and is quite powerful.

The gun is not for sale and never will be but I would like a valuation if possible for other reasons.

Surrey Guns have a .22 in vgc up for £95.

I think I'll leave it at that rather than offer a guesstimate.

Hiya mick, I would put a value of £40 On it,
I have this Very early mod 5 wood stock, not worth much in this condition ? But well collectable, I think 1950,s ?

And this, I have the seals for it, but I guess never do it ?

    Cheers, Ged.

    Hi Mick
    I recently relinquished this
    http://i827.photobucket.com/albums/z...G/DSCF3071.jpg
spare foresight element and a set of lefthand grips its a 6G but near as dammit it was very powerful and accurate, being used by me for 20 yard airpistol competitions while I had the time, I put a value on it of between £90 and £100 but ended up doing a swap for a rifle which was in about the same price range and both the recipient and myself were well pleased.
I would definitely agree with Geds' valuation of around £40 but not having tried it this might go a little less, beautiful guns to shoot and a definite challenge to reseal first time you do one.
    Hope this Helps Martini

    Thanks Chaps

From your replies I have a clear indication of what the gun's worth and to what it could be worth if reblued and minted.

In a strange way pistols seem to be devalued a lot more by a poor finish than rifles are.

    Ah well thanks again

    Update

Sorry to bump an old thread back up folks.

But Dan J B's thread on the Original model 5 reminded me that I still had this one in bits after rebluing it.

So I rebuilt it today so I could have a play with it.

    before

    after

    http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...0042012583.jpg

Due to the heavy pitting I had to use needle files on the worst areas prior to polishing and unfortunately I had to remove the made in Germany stamping.
There was also some heavy pitting by the L in Original which I couldn't completely remove so I just had to leave them in and blue over them.

    410fps with proper wasps.

    Sorry about the poor pictures.

    Hi Andy

The 5g and P5 share many of the same components but the P5 is supposed to have a longer stroke ?

There was an Original 5gs pistol which was introduced in February 1984 which had a barrel weight and scope rail,, which looked very much like the later P5.
