Leather piston heads and breech washers...
    Hi all,

I have a batch of 12x24mm(approx) leather piston cup seals and breech washers that are suitable for most light/medium weight Gem patterns that have leather cup seal fitted (you can always drill and tap the piston if you want to use these too). They can also be used in any airgun that has a leather cup seal as a piston head around this size. I have 10 sets for sale priced at £6 a set all-in, including postage.

    A set consists of:

    1) leather cup washer (24mm wide x 12mm deep)
    2) leather backing washer (16mm x 4mm)
    3) leather front buffer washer (18mm x 4mm)
    4) M6(1.0/coarse) 20mm csk screw (optional, for use if drilling and tapping the piston)
    5) M6 14mm bevelled steel washer
    6) leather breech washer - the ones shown are 10mm, 11mm and 12mm, these are the most common sizes for Gem breeches, but I can make them to other sizes too. (let me know what size you need when ordering, please)
(all sizes are approx, these can easily be sanded to size)

Here is a pic of what you get for your £6 - The leather piston heads may/will require some light final sanding/sizing to fit your gun, easily done by spinning it in a drill and sanding to size. The leather breech seals are 4 mm thick and will need to be trimmed to size, again, easily done by fitting the breech seal, closing the gun to squeeze it in place (making sure it is fully seated), and then trim off the excess with a stanley knife blade remembering to leave the seal a little proud of the cylinder face.
    Where is the picture mate?

Opportunity is missed by most people, because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Thanks for the info I had seen the above mentioned leather washer kits. However I would prefer a genuine hw piston washer and modern synthetic breech seal

Nowt as queer as folk eh

    Hi Mike,

Both Chambers and Protek have the spares you need, not the older leather piston seal though, which is listed as being out of stock at Chambers (sold out at £18.56 each!...holy moly!) Both sell an adaptor to fit a modern seal, cost is between £25 and £30 for the adaptor and seal.

No offence meant but your desire to use "genuine HW parts" costing £25-£30 rather than a homemade seal from me for £6 seems to be indicitive of most folk (I have given away more than I've sold so it's not worth the bother really )...although a leather seal is just a leather seal!...there is nothing special about them and they're very easy to make...so why not have a go at making one yourself before paying £20 for a tiny piece of leather?

Dave, no offence taken However I Have no intention of buying a new genuine seal. I was after a s/h one off of here.
There must be a few folk on here who have bought one of the 'convertors' to allow fitment of the synthetic seal, and then kept the old leather one for a 'rainy day'.

    regards, Mike

    Hi Mike,

Goodluck with the search, hope you find decent usable s/h seal

...although it does beg the question of why someone would go to the bother and expense of changing an old leather seal for a modern synthetic replacement if it wasn't actually neccessary to do so?...

If you don't get any joy with the search then please do let me know, I'll make you one on approval, then if it's no good just don't pay me for it...or, if you'd rather, I'll tell you how to make your own.

Edit: another alternative solution would be to buy a standard leather cup form these folk: http://www.base-camp.co.uk/Cups%20.htm ..a suitable leather cup seal will cost you a couple of quid!...but you'll have to make any internal backing/buffer washers that you will need.

    Cheers,
    Dave

bigtoe, does this replace the std leather seal without using the 'converter' for the modern synthetic seal? If so, could you (when convenient) send me an image please. mike@benchstop.co.uk

    Many thanks, Mike

You just need the steel plug that usually holds everything in as normal..no adapter needed.
I could also make up an O ring piston head for the old type pistons which again would fit on with the steel plug..this could be done in Acetal or Alu (I have tested Acetal and its fine ) Only issue is time at the moment.

If you want this one PM me...we can chat about it, I will not use this one now as i moved to O rings on the old type pistons now.
