    Walther LGR Match-Universal

I have managed to buy a Walther LGR Match Universal, but it does not have the raiser blocks for the front sight or the rear sight. These are the same as used on the LGR Match, so I don't think these will be too hard to find.

The adjustable cheek piece does not have any "raiser blocks" either, and as I have not seen any pictures of this part of the Universal, I am guessing they are like some sort of spacer that plugs into the large vertical holes that are exposed when the cheek piece is either raised or removed by the single fixing bolt that retains it.

Any help with information about what these parts look like or where I may be able to find a set would be very helpful. Pictures of these parts or the cheek piece in a rasied position to show them would help as well.

Hi there.A little while back i bought the same type of rifle and it came with 3 different size cheek pieces.I bought it from a gentleman who had bought it new so i think walthers aproach to the adjustable cheek piece was to supply 3 different size whole ones instead of using spacers...

I think they may have made (at least) two variants of the LGR Match-Universal, the one that you owned, and another that has "plug-in" plastic raiser blocks that depending on the position they are inserted in gives a variable height to the cheek piece.

I have been able to order a new set of these genuine Walther plastic raiser blocks from a UK Walther specialist who was able to identify what I needed straight away.

As soon as they arrive I will fit them and report back with some pictures.

Maybe I should have mentioned that I ordered these plastic cheek piece rasier blocks from a Walther trained dealer who sell's spare parts - Bills Walther Spares and Repairs, who I found very helpful and easy to deal with.

Bill seems to be able to locate and supply Walther parts that I feared may have been obsolete for some of the older weapons and is worth a try if you are stuck for a part or need a repair.

This may be a helpful bit of info for anyone needing genuine new Walther spare parts that are now getting harder to come by.

    Raiser Blocks Now Arrived

The raiser blocks I ordered have now arrived and been fitted to the LGR-Universal OK.

It turns out that the early LGR-Universal rifles did come with a series of alternative height wooden cheek pieces, but by 1983 Walther had changed this to to nylon eccentric cams that could be inserted upwards or downwards between the stock and the cheek piece to give different heights.

This height adjustment was further aided by two alternative depth's of sockets to drop these nylon cams into.

Once the selected way up for the cams and the chosen socket depth has been selected to give the best height for the shooter, then the cams can be turned to move the cheekpiece inwards or outwards to suite the individuals preferred head position.

What a brilliant but simple system - and from 1983 as well!

The matching genuine Walther rear sight raiser blocks have two sliding "steps" that are closed once they are in position over the dovetails and make a very professional job. The front sight raiser just slides over the front barrel dovetail and clamps tight. These could also be multi-stacked if the shooter has a long neck and alternative sockets or cam orientations chosen to match the increased height.

Walther really did make a "Universal" rifle with this final LGR variant, and I am very pleased with it.
