    Black stock finishing advice

    Hello to all,

I'm looking for some opinions on how to finish my stock. I have the following stock and want to finish it off in black.

I have two ways to do it.

    1) Finish it myself with black wood dye and an oil finish.

    2) Get it finished in black by Hydro-Graphics.

Here is my question. If I try and dye the wood myself and its not a good job, can Hydro-graphics still give it a good finish or will my efforts hinder their work??? I would rather dye the wood as then the grain of the wood can still be seen.

    Appreciate any advice.

Or take it to a local car body shop and get them to spray and bake it with black car paint, that's what I did with my S410. The stock never needs oiling, dirt never gets ingrained in the wood, it's watertight and all you need to bring it back to it's full glory is a tin of Turtle Wax .

Might even work out cheaper too.

    Black stock

Don't cover up that luverly wood grain with paint of whatever , get some ebony wood stain, it will colour the stock black, but you will still see the grain through it, test a bit inside the inletting first to see what it will look like.

Just keep adding coats to get a darker finish.

I definitely won't be painting the stock. I want to be able to see the grain of the wood. I have checked some posts on here about blackening a stock. They recommend black wood dye and danish/teaj oil.

Where can i get danish or teak oil?? Do B&Q sell it??

Will dye the wood and see what results I get. Will post some pics when done. Want to give it that cool military finish.

I wouldn't paint that stock, much to nice for paint.

B&Q do sell Danish and Teak Oil!

    Cheers.

Stuff Hydrographics, they'll want loadsa money. Stain it and oil it yourself for about a fiver, you can brag then about what a great job YOU'VE done.
