    Screw size---Webley pistol

Does anyone know the size of the screws that hold the grips on a Webley mk 1 pistol? I thought that they might have been 3ba or 4ba but they don;t seem to be. Can one of you engineers types measure up and get the thread gauge out please? Thanks

    9/64" x 36TPI x 3/8" - Head Diameter 3/8" - Pan Head Depth (Approx.) 3/32" (Centre)

Sounds like it's British Standard Whitworth (BSW)

    1/8" BSW (8/64") is 40 tpi

    5/32" BSW (10/64") is 32 tpi

So logic suggests that 9/64" x 36 tpi, a diameter and pitch sitting midway between those, would be from the same thread series.

Information sought about antique firearms with Japanese markings, do you have one ?

    Webley threads

If you need to tap a thread to take the grip screw, you can get away with using a 4mm tap. The fit is a bit loose but the screw will go in and tighten up.

I found a table of threads on the internet and 9/64 whitworth is down as 40 tpi

It's not listed in any of my thread charts, but I'm awaiting a call from a 'thread expert' who may be able to identify it.
Apparently, the coloquial term for these odd threads as used in older gun manufacture, is 'Enfield Thread'.

Update: Tracy Tools have one tap with the size 9/64 x 36tpi on it, but, unfortunately, it doesn't say what specific thread form it is.
