Nice photos, shame you didn't see any country owls

I also enjoyed taking a peek at the photos. This is one of those benefits that you get from being out and about, and I understand how chuffed you must have felt capturing that particular moment. I bet you will remember it more than you do what happened when shooting!

    Good piccy, well done blue.

I have one that can be a bit nosey on my patch, and also have a pet/rescued tawny at home (she makes a right row at the moment as it is that time of the year again).

Oddly, what a lot of folk dont realise is that the tawny (Strigudae, Strix Aluco) is our most aggressive British owl, so dont get between one and it's young.

Mine has nailed me a couple of times (and she is a sweetie).

A long time back, a chap (Eric Hoskins I think) lost an eye to a female near her nest.

They look sweet...but aint, which when you consider they are related to the Great gray, and the super turbo nutter tawny (The Ural owl...never mess) it is hardly surprising as both these owls you can as near as dammit guarantee will attack you if you are too close to their nests.

They have both cuased the deaths of people who got it wrong

Funilly enough, tawns have been filmed fishing for minnows, resourcefull little gits.

Mine just likes winding up the neighbours!! (neigbouring owls I mean).
What the hell was that then????

I didnt realise how aggressive they were Para! What seems like several hundred years ago now, me and a few mates were coming back from one of those late night party things on our 2 stroke seventies blue smoke belching bikes when a Tawny swooped down on the leading riders helmet, tore his visor off and left some amazing scratch lines down the front of his helmet. Fortunately for the bird, it swooped as we were all exiting a slow hair-pin bend so he didnt run it into the deck. He somehow managed to stay on, and if I remember rightly, his backside resembled that of his feathery adversary (although without the feathers.) His raptor marked helmet was worn with pride from that time on.
