Silencer to fit MK1 HW80.Advice please

I have a HW80 MK1.It's the model with two grooves cut into the barrel end to clamp the foresight onto. The problem is I can not find a silencer that will go over the grooves. My mate had the brilliant idea (NOT) of grinding the grooves flat so that a silencer will go over that barrel !!!! The only silencer that I can think of is a Webley Pro System. Will that work OR will the grooves put it off centre ? I don't really want to spend money having the barrel threaded.Anybody got a better idea ? I think that the barrel is 16mm.
    Thanks

I had a similar issue putting a silencer onto my HW99s.

I manahged to fit a Webley pro in the end but had to slice open the barrel sleave so it would pass over the ridges. The ridges also had the tendency to make it very difficult to centre the silencer.

Very fiddly but did it in the end

BAR advertise a Logun silencer for the HW90 that has a 16mm barrel and groves cut, so should fit the HW80.

    Munchman,

Those grooves aren't machined but pinch formed. This makes the part between the grooves rise. It would have to be filed carefully until the barrel OD is concentric to the bore at the muzzle.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Venom Long Series silencer.

The only problem is that when fitted, even to the carbine version, the overall length is too much. So you may be better off cutting the barrel rather than filing the grooves. 10" to 13" of barrel (breech to muzzle) should be more than sufficient for a 12 ft.lbs. HW80K.

    Hello Carl,

Not being funny, but are you sure you need a moderator?

One of the quietest springers I owned was an oldish HW80 - remakably quiet for a 12fp rifle but I didn't realise until a friend fired a few shots with it.

Very quiet from only a few yards away.

    HTH, Regards, Ed
