Blowback pistols that fire plastic BB's

I want to get one for my son.

I have been told that there is a power limit that if not exceeded causes the gun to have to have a brightly coloured piece fitted to the muzzle. However, if the power exceeds the limit, no coloured attachment to the muzzle is needed.

Please can someone guide me through this matter?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Airsoft

The brightly coloured airsoft have to be under 2 joules , if over that they are classed as a Air Pistol and hence
come under the firearm cat. , you can still buy the black or any single coloured gun but have to be part of a skirmish group/airsoft club etc . this is the basics of it but if you want to go into it any more go onto - http://www.wolfarmouries.co.uk/airso...n.asp?page=faq
a gun is just a tool how its used is dependant on the person behind the trigger .
This is why constant restrictions on legal users will have no effect on the unlawfull use of guns or knives !

There are a few pistols that fire in excess of the 2j power limit. One that springs to mind is the Smith & Wesson Sigma .40. It runs from a single CO2 capsule and fires BBs at about 450fps, well in excess of the airsoft limit. Generally if you want a blowback pistol that still takes the 6mm BBs, it'll have to be CO2 powered.

Does he want it for plinking or shooting friends in informal skirmishes? If he just wants something to plink with you might be better off looking for a .177/4.5mm metal BB pistol instead, such as the Walther P99 Compact.

    Hi SS

He wants it for indoor home plinking (cardboard box, etc backstop).

Go with a brightly coloured airsoft which you can buy online/mail order as it's neither an airgun or a RIF, your choice of gas or manually cocked spring (not sure if electric pistols are available)
The flourescent muzzle end is USA, for the UK the gun has to have a large pecentage of it's surface area in a non-realistic colour.
The CO2 6mm Air Pistols will wreck woodwork, lampshades, plastic items, wall paper and studding walls in the event of a miss or backstop failure,

How old/sensible is son? And is there a budget limit?

    This caught my eye

Not sure what the PC slide option is. As it's black it's slightly too powerful for skirmishing, but still uses plastic 6mm bb's.

This see through one will be less powerful, ie, probably wouldn't break skin at point blank range, used to to shoot at mates as long as they're wearing safety specs.

Edit: transparent guns are the same rules as two-tone, ie, they are not a realistic imitation firearm. They can be used for Airsoft skirmishing without the palaver of joint a ukara club.

    two tone

As stated prevoiously he co2 powered 6mm pistols will be too powerful for indoor use. I suggest buying a normal 6mm gbb pistol ( Gas Blow Back) in two-tone colour for which you need no UKARA registration.
Most airsoft specialists offer two-tone ( brightly coloured) gbb pistols. Try ... JD AIRSOFT, AIRSOFT WORLD, ACTION HOBBIES. for a start. Most of these dealers will also two-tone paint any of the more realistic pistols for you ,for a small fee.

    Hi SS

My son already has a S&W Sigma .40, but the hammer spring is broken [again, after spending a few hours making one].

A very kind Mr Ruggles today informed that Magicniner on here works on these types of pistols. I have contacted magicniner who says he can build a cuople for a very reasonable fee!

    Many thanks for your input.

I had a similar issue with mine, but in my case it was the sears that kept falling apart. A couple of old O-rings sorted that problem out.

Two things to consider about shooting BBs indoors though. One is that a CO2 powered airsoft gun will have quite a bit of energy behind it. I remember testing the Sigma in our kitchen by firing it through a chrono, with a damp tea-towel hung over the back. We thought it was working, as the BBs were just dropping to the floor, but what we eventually discovered was that they were going clean through the towel, leaving a sodding great dent in the kitchen wall, then bouncing back to be eventually stopped by the towel. The second is that if you opt for a standard two-tone airsoft gun, make sure the card's not too thick, otherwise you'll have BBs bouncing all over the place. I used to use a large cardboard box stuffed with old cloths or newspaper, as with three flat screen monitors in the room, I didn't want any collateral damage!

To be classed an as airgun I believe it only needs to be 1J not 2. Anyway I would defiantly advise AGAINST a bb gun that powerful for indoor shooting. As mentioned before you will get the odd ricochet that can break/damage anything in the house. One of my airsoft guns broke a light bulb in the chandelier due to a ricochet lol.

I would also advice against the S&W. Horrible guns, something is bound to break/fail on them. PA = plastic and the plastic slide version of this gun is the biggest pile of crap to ever enter this hobby. The slide will literally shatter due to the blowback force after a few magazines (cheap toy plastic).

I would get something like the ones below (would need to be 2tone unless you have a UKARA defense in either airsoft, a museum, or a re-enactment license).

I own one of these and they're great fun to shoot. Got a video of it too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbnO0...el_video_title
Its a pretty loud gun so take that into consideration. Some people like them louder some don't. But anyway its a good first time airsoft gun and I would recommend one.

If you just want something cheap but with a decent bit of quality then maybe one of these
