Any tips on on retraining for shooting (eyes)

After a year off from shooting, I've found out I have a problem!!! I shoot right handedly, but am now left eye dominant. Now I have to retrain, the question is do I retrain as a south paw or right handed with a non dominant eye. Now here comes the problem, I'm ambidexterous and shoot with both eyes open.

    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cheers
    Simon

I've come across this problem before when teaching archery, in which it is if anything far harder to retrain someone to shoot with their off hand.

The best solution seems to be to use both eyes open to assess the range, then close the dominant off hand eye to take the shot.

You may need an extended period of practice to stop yourself forgetting to close your dominant eye, but there is the advantage that with modern optics you can adjust your scope to perfect focus with your weaker eye, so you shouldn't end up at any disadvantage.

I recently found out on a trip to Millride that I'm left eye dominant when shooting clays but I'm a right handed shooter hence being infront or behind the clays when shooting from left right and vice versa. I was advised to wear a patch over my left (strongest eye) to force right eye dominance with being right handed. It made sense to me......

When shooting HFT I use right eye down the scope, easy...

    Dame Edna?

    Thommo,

    I wish!

I see that you live not far (well, by how we think of "not far") from where I bought my absolute favourite British joke (have to keep the insults flowing ) - my Bond 875 MkII.

Yep, I am mad enough to have bought it from a chap in Barnsley in around 1994, and ship it back here to GodZone when we were posted back here.

He is the only to have ever made it here, we believe, and he is undergoing a full, ground-up, body-off restoration.

It's costing us a packet, and he probably won't be worth a lot when finished, but he's our funny little car, and the grandchildren love him.

Slow, noisy, doesn't handle (especially compared with my MX5), but people laugh and wave when they see him, 'cos he's extremely unusual over here.

There you go - plenty of ammunition for "plastic pig" car jokes

BTW, that was the first time that I had tried out GMail, and did so when I saw your sig - glad to see that it works so well.

    Cheers - Chris

ps: dont the corks hanging from your hats get in the way of you drinking your xxxx beer? and any time you want to come and collect rolf harris the sooner the better.

    My mistake

    Thommo,

I thought that Rolf Harris was dead?

    Here's one for you:
    Q. Why do Queenslanders call their beer XXXX?
    A. 'Cos they can't spell "beer".

XXX is horrible stuff, just like Fosters, and I was embarrassed to see it on tap in the UK, but I guess that they belong with Carling's lager

I live in South Australia, home to Aussie's best beers - Coopers! (That should smoke out any other Aussies)

Sadly, I have never seen anyone with corks hanging from their hats outside of B-grade movies.
