molegrips.
Hi chaps-
I'm working on a project to convert a LH AA410 to a RH version. I've got the stock and bolt, but now I realise I need to swap a steel pin from one side to another in the hammer housing (for want of a better description)
How on earth do I do that? It's a bit tight to say the least
I've tried some gentle heat- no good. The problen is that the pin is (I think) hardened steel, so trying to use needle nose pliers to grip it and move it seems to be a no- go.
Any ideas?

molegrips.
They can be tough bu99ers to get out.
You need:
1. More heat.
2. Two pairs of pliers.
Grip the pin with one pair of pliers then use the second pair to hold the first pair shut. Enough heat and the loctite will run.
If you look carefully you'll see that the blind end of the hole that the pin sits in isn't actually a blind end, there is a weep hole to allow surplus loctite to drain out when they do the assembly.
Mole grips are too big to go in the gap.

Sounds more like a miniature hedgehog grip than a mole grip.

Don't be shy with the heat. Of course you don't want the whole thing red hot, but you won't damage the blacking and if you've stripped it there are no combustible bits to worry about.

Thanks for thr input, I'll try more heat. Failing that I could grind it away with my dremel and buy a new pin.

molegrips, no heat needed.
The problem Steve, is that the visible part of the pin is only about 4 or 5 mm. I don't have grips small enough sadly.
