    New Member

Another one of our new members has served his 3 months probation period and has now become a full member.

Graham or TANK as he is known ( I think I will refer to him as GT from now onwards) is a welcome permanent member to our gang who is not only a reasonably good shot with his vintage pistols, but also a hard worker who is aways happy to help when we have a work party or need a bit of "grunt" to get the job done.

He has also combined well with Phil who joined us a little earlier , and together they have plans for an overhead auto-changer system that will be unique to our club where we need to provide some access across the area where the cables would normally run.

So now we have GT and IJ and PMH it looks like we could be making the start of an alphabet club membership !

Anyone with initials that we have not already used should apply for membership now before all the letters have gone

Sounds like a promising bunch of applicants that should all fit in well - two of them are a bit on the short side though, and this could well please a certain member (or two) who are also vertically challenged as they would no doubt hope for their support in all matters related to height

As it stands now, the support for lower light switches, tables and chairs with shorter legs and (short) steps up to the target holders have not received too much sympathy

Only yesterday I was in the neighbouring town and quaintly named RAMSBOTTOM when it was attacked by the German army and defended by the U.S. (?) army! A Spitfire and a Hurricane flew over in their defence. Time warp or what!!!

No wonder they require better marksmanship !!!!

I tell you - when you say "Good morning!" in Rawtenstall - you have to stop and explain it.

...guess they thought travelling over the "big hill" to Blackburn was not worth bothering about ( attacking OR defending) ........so they stayed and played in the very desirable Rossendale Valley instead.

Absolute proof that the Rossendale Valley is actually "Internationally Desirable" as we have both the Germans and the Yanks fighting over it - as you personally witnessed

The MPL series cards for May need to be shot this week , so if anyone has not completed them yet Thursday is your last chance to register a score for this month.

    10 meter Range Improvements

The RMTC 10 meter range is based in a cellar, and we have been slowly but surely clearing-out all of the junk and making the place a bit more tidy as well.

Previously we had painted the walls in a very fetching shade of magnolia, but we still shoot into the original NARPA pellet traps.

Last weekend saw a work party improve the shooting bench and add a "toe bar" to the floor to make it simple to stand to it at exactly 10 meters from the targets without touching the bench in any way. The other side of the shooting bench now has all of the electrical sockets installed ready to power the next phase of our improvements - auto-changers

The height of the targets has been laser-aligned so they are now exactly 1.40 meters higher than the shooting position floor so this is also now improved.

The lighting at the butts has been improved with individual spotlights now making it unnecessary to use the self-illuminated NARPA target box lights and are in place ready for use with the auto-changer system that will follow after we have completed the ceiling patch-up, plaster and paint.

We are also adding one extra shooting position too.

Many thanks to those that do come along and get "stuck-in" to help make things better for everyone and many thanks to those that have donated materials to help the club make these improvements possible.

New members are welcome to come along and see us any Tuesday or Thursday ( we also shoot bell target in the main hall on a Thursday) from 7.00pm to 10.00pm.

Think you mean Thursday there Bob, not sure the flying club would be too happy with us using their heli's for target practice (although we could spawn a new sport from it ).

Rossendale Model Target Club is still going well, but we could do with a few more 6 yard rifle shooters to come and join us.

We have the use of a nice large hall for 6 yard bell target shooing every Thursday night ( as well as the 10 meter pistol range in the cellar on Tuesday's and Thursday's).

Winter is coming and we have this nice comfortable facility available so if you fancy somewhere to shoot bell target on a Thursday night please come along and give us a try

No 6 yard or Bell Target this week.

This Thursday 19th December we will not have the use of the main hall as it is needed for a church function so there will be no 6 yard or bell target shooting at RMTC this week.

The 10 meter range will be open on Tuesday and Thursday this week as usual and it is not affected by the function in the main hall above.

    Pew Heaters!

As the main church part of the building that we share for our shooting club continues to be up-graded a few of the cast-off items can be of some use to us!

The long tubular heaters that were fitted underneath the pews have now become available and have already been installed all the way down both sides of our cellar range and across the front and back so we will soon have "surround heating"

The next step is to get them all wired-up and already the church have got themselves a good tame electrician so it looks very much like this will be completed quite quickly.

If we are not careful we may soon become very comfortable in our cellar range - a far cry from when we first started using it !

New members are welcome - no heating surcharge is envisaged for 2014
