Advice on starting 10m Air Pistol

I have recently joined a club and have been introduced to 10m Air Pistol which is a new discipline to me. At this time I am using the club pistols and have tried a few others including Steyr and Morini. I want to get my own pistol and would like some advice on what to consider. Given what I have learnt so far, I think I would prefer to buy a quality pistol and become competent with it rather than start with a budget pistol and then upgrade at a later date. My budget restricts me to buying secondhand. Any sound advice would be welcome.
    Thanks in anticipation.

You have already made the right choice by joining a good club that gives you the chance to try a selection of different match pistols to see the one you like using the best.

When I started in the early 70's there was really only one choice and that was the Feinwerkbau Model 65, but things are very different now and so it would be a good idea to take some time to try as many as possible before parting with the cash.

When you do find a good used example of the type you like the best, try to shoot it at your club if this is possible just to confirm everything is OK and maybe ask a club member who has a similar type to avise you where to look for any possible defect.

All top qaulity match pistols such as the ones you mention and others from Walther and Feinwerkbau are probably the most widely used world-wide, but other manufacturers such as Benelli and SAM are also worth trying if possible.

The final consideration is to check the availability of spare parts and service in your area as this could be a helpful influence. All modern match qaulity pistols are well made and reliable, but all will eventually need seals and other minor service parts and you may prefer to have this done for you by your local RFD......and some specialise in certain types - even though a good gunsmith should be able to tackle any of them.

Are you in Braunton Devon? I was lucky enough to shoot in a few clubs when I lived in Exmouth and later Barnstaple - what club are you shooting at?
Rossendale Target Shooting Club. Every Tuesday and Thursday evening 7 - 10pm.
