I use a Possum Hollow trimmer, about £20 or thereabouts.

    Hi Al,
just to confirm, - the 17 Rem trimmer has enough adjustment to also trim 17 Fireball cases?
And which chamfer/de-burrer do you use?
    tia,
    cheers, Tedward.

Yes, I can confirm that the Possum Hollow 17cal trimmer can be adjusted to suit the shorter 17 Fireball case.

I trimmed all my cases when new to the shortest case length then deburred using a RCBS tool (rocket shaped) mounted in a power adapter; chamferred with a VLD tool and finishing off by polishing the neck with some 0000 steel wool - air blowing clean before first use.

Incidentally, this initial treatment was a one-off as, after about 6 reloads (I don't segregate spent cases by number of times fired), I have not needed to trim/chamfer/deburr again as the cases have not grown to within 20 thou of the chamber max case length.

    AL,

Have a Lee deburring tool similar shape to the RBS one, presumably it will be OK?

What is the cases max length please?

    Thx

    John

The Lee version will be OK for outside deburring, but it's a bit too big for inside chamferring a 17 case.

To determine the max case length for your chamber you will need a Sinclair chamber length tool or similar.

My preference would be the RCBS VLD chamferring tool because the 25 grain 17 cal BT and HP bullets that I use all have a flat base.

Tip: a chamber length gauge can be made by cutting off a few mm from a case mouth and epoxy glueing the resulting ring on to the base of a bullet. Then follow the instructions in the Sinclair video.

    Al,

    Top man.

As an aside just ordered some more brass Midway seems to be getting short.

How many loads are you getting per case?

    Thanks

    John
