Yama, not an expert, but have done running boar at Bisley a few times, basically you need to aim at a point in front of the target area that gives you the best score(from 1 to 10) you can buy a specialised scope that has 2 vertical lines on the ret that makes it easier to track the target point, never used one,I just tracked his nose to hit the target, great fun by the way

    Hi Yana
We have a 10mt running boar set up at Norwich City TC, oopps! Forgot its politicaly incorrect now to call it that, its now "Moving Target", (even though we do have a stock of the old 10mt targets known affectionatly as running rat!) We had a group of enthusiasts many years ago, but now its unused.

The rings are quite tight for a moving target, on the old "rat" one I have the ten is 6 mm acros, the nine 13 mm and so on in 5 mm sets to the one ring at 51 mm, the new boring balck aiming mark ones may have been updated and made smaller.

The rifle used is basically a 10 mt 4.5 mm match target rifle set up a bit differently. The sight is a telescopic sight, it must not be more than 4 times magnification and the overal scope size is limited (can't remember the dimensions), done to please the PC crowd so it does not look like a sniper rifle! Yes, that really was why the ISSF set that rule!! The ballance is set up differently to allow the rifle to swing, fore end has provison for the hand to grip, and the butt plate is usualy polished wood to allow it to slide into place. Most manufacturers made specific rifles for it, I had a rare Walther LGR thumbhole stock RB rifle, now most of the top companies still make modern versions.
The "rat" or rather now the boring black aiming mark target crosses the two metre gap on a slow run in 5 secs and on a fast run in 2.5 secs, the shooter must hold the rifle with the butt below hip line and can not move the rifle or mount until the target appears.
The foot zero position is set up to allow for a flow in either direction, then you just practice and practice! Its great fun but very dificult and requires a lot of dedication to reach any sort of standard, which was one of the reasons for its demise at our club as its not the sort of thing that you just play at, so precision shooters had the odd go but the technique does not mix with precision, its closer to a shotgun technique.

We had several members who made RB national squad 30 years ago, we refurbished the system last year in the hope that with the growing trend in FT where the rifles are similar we may have been able to encourage more use, but no, I suspect the difficulty frightened them away so the system which we have on wheels so we can pull it across the backstop sits unused in our turning target range.
    Good shooting
    Robin

Walther KK500 Alutec expert special - Barnard .223 "wilde" in a Walther KK500 Alutec stock, mmm...tasty!! - Keppeler 6 mmBR with Walther grip and wood! I may be a Walther-phile?

I can do shotgun patterns without any hint of precision....will this suit me then?

    Thnx for yr large post!
I wanted to start with the Gamo RT, with falling 'animals'.
    I have 2 RT airrifles, both Tau 200 BT's. Both CO2.
Scoped it up with a high mount and NS Airking 4x32 AO scope.
Unfortunately, both rifles came with broken stock, so have to fix that first!
