    .177 or .22 , help me decide

i have decided to buy a new mk3 superten carbine..problem is, i cant decide which calibre to get.
it will be used mainly for hunting..
would i be better off going for .22 ?, or would .177 be better, using heavier pellets, such as bisley magnums.?are bisley magnums suitable for the superten ?
has anyone got any other suggestions ,as to what pellet should be tried ?in either calibre?
i really dont know what to go for, so any advice ,please...

    thanks in advance

    First question:
    FAC or not

    If FAC, then .22
if not FAC, then prolly still .22

JSB's seem to do good in mine but I have "FAC" gun.

ooh, you can start a long thread with this one. .22 or .177?

I'll start the argument then. Assuming non FAC:

.177 allows you a little more error on judging distance, as can be significantly less drop, unless you use mega heavy pellets! As most people's problem is judging the distance right and geting holdover and holdunder correct, they tend to do better with the .177. A rabbit shot with either calibre will drop if headshot, so for me, I've moved to .177 to make sure get more on target. It's also helped me on my HFT scores.

    .177,
It lets you shoot out to 60yards with .22 you are lucky to get out to 40yards, 45yards tops.
.177 shoots flat as a pan cake .22 is like a mortor bomb.
Ask the target shooters what the use .177 every time.
Ask most (good) hunters they will say .177

well yhers alot of bad hunters on here then!!! me included..22s flight path is a bit more loopy but is constant so you can learn it.
.177 flys faster and just makes holes in animals which is not acceptable to us good hunters.
light .22 is the way to go you get the impact and flatter flight.

Not yet found a .177 BSA barrel that didn't like Bisley Magnums.

As for calibre choice - if you want to kill something first you must hit it. With an airgun that means in the correct spot not just anywhere. Acheiving that under field conditions is easier with .177 due to the more forgiving trajectory. Choose .22 by all means but you WILL limit your range and therefore choice of shots by a fair margin.

You can argue all day about this. It will never end. IMO, It's own to personal preference. I've always used .22 rifles, and have got use to consistently judging the trajectory. My advice would be to go for what your use to.

Get Chairgun and see for yourself. It's a trajectory program for airguns and it's free.
