3 Hours, 3 Shots, No kills.

Decided to take a little trip to my nearest shoot yesterday. Arrived around 5pm and sraight away spotted the farmer and his wife in the farm yard.
Glad your here, he said, we are over run with rabbits, wick with them !
Now, his idea of over run ( 1 or 2 rabbits ) and the way most of us would view it are slightly different, but who am I to argue ?
After a quick natter, I went for a walk in the fields. Spotted a cou[le of bunnies about 100yds away but due to my stumbling bafoon routine I soon spooked them.
Suitably calmed down, I took a walk along one of the farm tracks. I spotted 2 rabbits chasing each other. 1 ran to about 80 yards and the other stayed close to the hawthorn hedge at about 30 yards. I leant on a wooden gate, steadied myself and took aim. As i took up stage one, I thought "what a big bunny ", big mistake ! I failed to notice a twig sticking out from the hedge, and clipped it, missing the bunny totally. Off it ran in to the hedge.
Shot 2 was a 35yrd shot in to a a breeze from the left. I aimed off and watched as my shot landed exactly where I had aimed, just in front of the rabbits nose. Damn wind !
After another hour of wandering around, watching the rabbits dart in to hedges, and freezing my bits off, I decided to head back to the car.
Shot 3 was a Telegraph pole, come on we have all done it. One last shot before we put the rifle back in its bag. Well I killed it. The pellet landed right on top of the knot that I aimed for.
Oh well, theres always next time.

Not that honest, you failed to mention that you missed on purpose to give them a few more hours of breeding time LOL, then the farmer will be over run and you can make hay

Sounds like you know this farmer too. I once gutted one while he was there and I was a little dismayed to see it was carrying young. Don't worry he said, thats four that you have got instead of one !
I know it happens sometimes, but I still feel guilty when it does. However, pest control is just that, pest control.
If you miss ocassionaly ( as we all do ) it means that next time there may me four to shoot at instead of one. I call it conservation, or control. Page 3 in my book of excuses, along with s.a.s ( sunny afternoon syndrome )
You have to tell the wife something !
