    Original Model 5

Does anyone know what year the Original Model 5 became known/sold as the Model 5G, and what changes were made to the pistol, if any? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Dan

According to the Airgun book the 5G made it's debut in November 1978.

I don't know for sure but I don't think many parts are interchangable between the model 5 and 5G but you could compare the part numbers on Chambers to find out more.

Essentially, the 5 had a plastic grip/frame unit in which the mechanism rested.

The 5G uses instead an alloy (?) frame to which separate left and right grips are attached, in which the same (?) mechanism fits.

    Good pictures of each here:

Looks like a G - as IanKD says the previous version looked like this:

And as a matter of interest the one before this had a wood grip - here is a 1959/60 example:

    Great pistols!

    wooden grip Mod 5

...and I was lucky enough to buy the 1959/60 Mod 5 from Ian and it is a lovely pistol. For a recoiling gun, it is really easy to shoot - thanks again Ian!

Sorry though that I can't add anything else to the original question...

    Hi Dan

After looking at the parts diagrams for the 5 and 5g the main common parts appear to be the piston, spring and guide, the cocking linkage and the foresight.

The main body tube and barrel being different for the two guns.
