The maximum output for an air rifle is 12 foot pound energy and 6 foot pound energy for a pistol.

It is an ABSOLUTE so your equipment must not EXCEED these limits or be CAPABLE of exceeding them otherwise you will be in breech of fire arms law and could be prosecuted, improsoned, fined and your equipment seized/destroyed.

Theoben like many manufacturers make lots of rifles under these limits for which you do not need a cert though convictions/inprisonment may make it an offence for a person to hold such a weapon even if it is under the legal limit.

Rifles that are made to exceed these limits will be sold as FAC equipment.

However, sub 12 gear can go "hot" for a variety of reasons and it is the END USERS LIABILITY to ensure that is in not over the limits with any type or weight of pellet that it may be tested with.
Damn this accursed slydexier, deslixia, slesdex-e-her. Well damn it anyway

Theoben are probably the most popular maker of FAC level air rifles in the UK so it's easy for a beginer to get confused & think they would all require a licence, but they don't.

Theoben are also superb in the sub 12ftlb class.
