Ok thanks Fred, will have to dign up and have a butchers later when I get in

There is no damage to the cylinder walls so I think just for now I will leave it be.

So that just leaves sizing the piston seal- what's the best way to go about that? I dont have a lathe.

I'v done it by simply holding some sand paper at the correct angle. (same as seal) and turning the piston slowly. It's crude but works !!

So, piston head off with seal in place and sand away at the seal?

You say correct angle, not sure what you mean my this?

Also, this rule of "piston should move under finger pressure"- is this lubed or dry? I have some silicone "dry lube" spray I could use for this purpose?

    Sorry for all the questions!

Keep the seal angle the same as it already is and silicone oil is a complete no no and has no place inside a springer as it will damage it!! Testing the correct fit there is no need for lubes as dry is fine!!

If you can get the piston to sit in a cordless drill then clamp the drill and spin it up, doing this will spin the piston seal quicker and keep sanding even, hth.

Hope all you people giving advice realise that the seal on a meteor ( if not leather ) is usually an O ring

you have a tight seal, take a little off, try again til it fits. should be a nice smooth fit when done. bit of moly grease reassemble and try. they can diesel a bit for few shots then should be ok. best of luck, let us know how you get on
