    Webley Junior

A friend has the above pistol serial number 699 in its original box (rather tatty) I was wondering what year it would have been made. It has bakelite grips and is categorised on the box as series 2
any help would be greatly appreciated.

No replies? I'm not trying to sell it just to get a date (on the gun)

    Junior Series 2

The number on the gun will be a batch number, which can't be used to date it. From the information you have, the gun could have been made any time between 1945 and 1973. Hope this helps (a bit anyway!)

Thanks mate it did seem small for a serial number. Were they never given serial numbers?

If possible post a pic - the style of the box (assuming it is indeed original to the gun) will enable us to tie it down a bit further. In answer to your question: no, post-war Webley pistols generally had batch numbers, right up to the alloy Mk2 Premiers and Juniors, where all obvious numbering was dropped (except for units exported to the US). Pre-war pistols did have full serial numbers.
