Small and tight sights fall into that category, some manufacturers are not that close to inavative shooters so they stick with the old school. Your good level shooter should try a wide big sight picture he might shoot even better (or not!).
We have a training aid for new shooters which is a dummy pistol with huge sights, 4 inch wide back site, with an 1 inch and a 1/2 gap, and an inch wide front site, I think its fabulous, the sight picture is incredible!!!
Just wait, some one will do it, make a huge back site as big as will fit in the box, nothing in the rules to stop it other than it must fit the box, they'll shoot well, and then every one will do it!!
    Good shooting

    Dear Robin,
i completely agree with your reply about larger wider fore and rear sights. I would actually like to get front sight and rear sights made for my Walther CPM-1 pistol. Would you know whom to contact to get well fabricated sights made from. Just throwing it at you for your insight before I call and harrass machining people because your know a lot of stuff. Thanks for your replies, I have read quite a few of them and learnt a lot from them.
    have a nice day

Thanks for your kind comments, glad to be of help. I no longer shoot pistol as I have rheumatic problems with my right arm which made it difficult to shoot to the standard I wanted to so I now shoot 10 mt air rifle and prone smallbore and fullbore rifle. I had always specialised in rifle coaching as my wife is a high level rifle shooter, but pistol was my first and main love.
The back sights are usualy just a simple plate which I filed out and drilled if neccesary myself, back in the deep snow I had some blanks made for my Walther LPM1 and I have one unused one left if you want it. You may be able to mod it to fit your Walther, I also have a CP2, I suspect your sights may be the same with a slot mounting? So you'd have to cut the slots. The plate I have is 40mm x 18mm x 2.5mm , its drilled for an LPM, with a 5 mm sight gap, its unfinished plain steel, would need chamfering etc, I just spray them matt black. If its of use to you just e or PM your adresss.
Front sights, I either got the biggest I could get, I think the older Walthers only did 4mm ones as the biggest or I made them, they are quite an easy shape to cut and file out, and then spray matt black.
Hours of amusement ahead filling and whittling!
    Good shooting

    Simple LP2 rear sight.

    Hi Robin,

How do you get on with the LP2 rear sight width?

I have just got back from being away in the west country and will try my new LP2 for the first time at the club tomorrow - but my first overview leaves me a little unimpressed with the basic non-adjustable rear sight plate slot width.

The adjustable LP10 type is a lot better and I had just "assumed" that the same rear sight assembly would be fitted to all the curent Steyr match air pistols.

I guess I need to make up some suitable blank plates and file out some wider options for myself?

Two minutes with a swiss file, adjustable widths are Ok for those who are finding out but just another complication and unecessary expence for us grumpies. Such a long time since I saw it I'ved forgotton as I've lent it to a junior, but is the LP2 the one that you can turn over and has two width slots? if so leave the wide side and file out the narrow side

    Good advice Robin.

Yes the backsight is as you remember it.

I am using the widest slot at the moment, so I will flip it over and file out the smaller slot to a wider width that I can work with.

It should then be perfect and ready for the 10 meter Bell Target Oympics!

Stay in touch - us grumpies have to stick together - nobody else will want anything to do with us ( if they have any sense!).
