    FWB300 Piston & breach Seal

Any idea where to get these from, do Chambers stock them?

Do they just pull out or are they bonded in?

One other question, is it just standard moly grease and oil to reassemble?

    TIA

Parts are no longer made for this series.
You need a piston! - you've gone and done it have'nt you? The Ox mainspring; for Whiscombe equivalent performance!

In the mid-eighties at Cardiff; FWB sent a Techie who would fit breech seals to 300's, and fire them to test, with no pellet in the breech - Sacriledge! - German Fundamentalism! - yet you need a piston. There's got to be a good story behind this. Your Honda 50cc motorcycle broke down; so..

I think I read there is some guy in Brum with a good stash of parts, so contact the NSRA, as the 300 is the still the mainstay of the Club Rifle slot. I see James Maccari is promising mainsprings for 'em.

The insides of FWB 300s are best left alone. The metal piston seals should last 500,000 rounds at least (yes that is half a million). If you have no joy here then try Beeman in the US for the breech seal.

Read this thread before you pull her apart:

u.k.neil has alot of experience with servicing the 300, his e-mail is in his details section. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip about not taking it apart. It's a bit late though now

The main reason for stripping it was that it needs a reblue. It's still in fantastic condition internally though and beautifully engineered.

There doesn't look to be any significant damage or wear to the seals, I was just curious to see if I could replace them as a matter of course.

I would have done exactly the same! - curiosity always wins over caution at least with second-hand devices.

In terms of lubing it, you could probably just use Dri-Slide on the compression tube/piston rings and the tiniest smear of LT2 on the spring.

Somewhere in the BBS there was a thread which mentioned the ten 10 ft/lb FWB300s which were made. It must have had a stronger spring/sledge spring and I would love to reproduce this gun. Not that I'm tempting you to squeeze a bigger spring into it or anything ....

How is the HW55 ... how much power is it producing?

I contacted Neil and he gave me some advice, which was really good of him.

As for 10 fpe, hmmm, I wonder......

I lent the 55 to a shooting club aimed primarily at lads so they can run it in for me, power check can come later, it has a HW 50 spring in it if that's any indication.

The shame is that I may have to lose the 55 due to some very necessary collection downsizing

The 300 will be a beaut when I am finished though, what a fabulously engineered gun.

Centra UK sell the 300s breach seal for three or four quid. They are just a larger version of the 65/80 breach seals and are cylindrical with a cone-shaped cutout to accommodate the breach (if you see what I mean ). The pistol's old one just pulled out and the new one was a push fit into the cavity.

    Cheers Dan.

Looks like the seals are the originals, over 25 years old - utterly amazing quality.

The stock has come out quite nicely as well
