I keep looking for a decent long range scope to replace my MTC Viper 4-16x50. Don't get me wrong, the MTC Viper is a great scope, but there are just 2 things that I hate about it.
- It's got a great MilRad Reticle but then MOA turrets. (why !!!... you do the math)
- The reticle is on the Second Focal Plane (again why!!!... only good for 10x magnification)
So I've always been on the lookout for a perfect long range air-rifle scope... and constantly hoping that MTC would produce it.
I was so excited last week when I came across the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP MRad, which looked like it had everything (even sub $1,000.00)... but then I saw the 50m+ Parallax adjustment. *sigh*... Hope they can fix that soon !
Anyway, this also got me to looking to see if anyone else has got anything that has the following requirements:
- MilRad reticle
- MilRad turrets
- Parallax adjustment from 10m (although 25m would be fine) to infinity
- First Focal Plane (FFP) reticle
- Magnification of 3-12, 4-16 (or similar)
- 0.1 Mrad turret adjustment per click (0.05 would also be ok)
- Under $1,000 / £650
So I started searching around a bit more and found:
Schmidt & Bender have released their Schmidt & Bender 3-20x50 PM II/LP/MTC/LT, which looks like it ticks all the right boxes... except the price (around $3,500...*yikes*)
- MilRad reticle - P4L fein
- MilRad turrets
- Parallax adjustment from 25m
- First Focal Plane (FFP) reticle
- Magnification of 3-20
- 0.1 Mrad turret adjustment per click
- $3,500 *ack*
I suppose it's in the same price category as their Schmidt & Bender 12,5-50x56 Field Target, which has parallax adjustment from 7-70m... which is not ideal for Long Range.
So... I guess I'll have to sell my MTC Viper as well as my S&B 4-16 PMII and buy 2x S&B 3-20 PMII's... at least that way my 32ft/lb FAC MFR .20 will have the same scope as my AI-AW 260rem. ... (but I might have to sell my house too !)
Please will someone make a scope with the above requirements for under $1,000 !!!!
MTC, Vortex ???
...any other suggestions ?
Hi,
This seems an interesting scope to me. I'm very happy with the quality of my S&B PMII 5-25X56 and 6X42 but I think this one is also a scope I'd like to own.

Those Falcon Optics scopes look pretty interesting!
Interesting range of scopes and all with Matching Reticle and Turret ! (*yay* someone listened)
There is a 'pre-production scope' 5.5-25X50FFP review on SnipersHide.
Not the best review as they go, with the following issues being picked up:... but that was in the pre-production run... has it been fixed ?
- Mushy Turrets
- Too stiff a parallax adjustment
- Unforgiving eye relief
- Blurred reticule at max power
- Milky clarity
Just got an email from Falcon (sub 10 min response time) mentioning that the parallax adjustment is from 11m upwards. *nice*
It would be good if this was mentioned on their advertised specifications.
Anyone have any experience with the Falcon 5.5-25X50FFP ?
Have the above issues been sorted in the final version ?
Why is it not punted more in the PCP market ?
Are Falcon Optics any better than - Hawke, the cheaper Bushnell, MTC, Simmons etc other than the added extra of having FFP?
Hi the Falcon optics are just cheap chinese scopes not in the league against your £1k brands your better off saving up buying a S&B or have you looked at Bushnell Elites, Leupold, Burris, Sightron, Nightforce etc
Size is no guarantee of strength well thats what your mom said
Yes and No...
The only scopes to date that I've found that meet the following criteria:are these two:
- MilRad reticle
- MilRad turrets
- Parallax adjustment from 10m (although 25m would be fine) to infinity
- First Focal Plane (FFP) reticle
- Magnification of 3-12, 4-16 (or similar)
- 0.1 Mrad turret adjustment per click (0.05 would also be ok)
Schmidt & Bender 3-20x50 PM II/LP/MTC/LT
Falcon Optics 5.5-25X50FFP, 5.5-25x50IR FFP, 5.5-25X56FFP, 4-14X44FFP
...the Nightforce 3.5-15x50 F1 NXS, might apply, but there is no mention of parallax adjustment sub 25m.
All other scopes seem to suffer from at least one of the following problems:
- Parallax adjustment only over 50m
- Mismatched Reticle and Turret calibrations
- Second Focal Plane reticles
So... at the moment it's either the $3,500.00 S&B, or the $550.00 Falcon 5.5-25x50IR FFP
Are there any other contenders ?
How about the FFP March scopes? 3-24x or 5-40x both tick all your boxes?

What about a Lightforce 4x14x44 ffp scope .
