    h+n .25 pellets

having had problems with these recently i have just bought another 5 tins to see if they are any good.having bought some scales of i have just gone through the first tin.
you get 200 pellets in a tin
    158 varied from 19.4 to 19.8gr
    14 were 19.82gr
23 were within .1 gr of stated weight
    1 of at 19.24gr
    1 of at 19.3gr
    1 of at 19.36gr
    1 of at 20.16gr
    1 of at 20.2gr
weight on tin was 20.06.now these pellets are clearly a load of shite.will not group with my gum at all.where do i stand ? can i take them to trading standards ?

Thats because they are the wrong size for BSA .25 barrels.

    You need Rhinos or Pylarms

I don't think that that weight variation is anything out of the ordinary for unsorted, non-target type "sporting use" pellets.

Neither will that weight variation have any major bearing on accuracy, in respect of the intended purpose.

If they are not compatible with your gun - well, that's hardly news is it, that one must test several different pellets before finding the one that shoots best in it.

Everyone claims that JSBs are the best thing since sliced bread, make that with peanut butter on top.

I have / had no gun that shot JSBs to any standard of accuracy, until my Patriot demonstrated that it likes nothing but JSBs - in .25.

do you really think i have not tested pellets to see what suits my gun.h+n,s in the old style tins were the best.my bsa would shoot these better than my hw 95 would shoot its favourite pellet, rested at 30yards.now the new style tins and the groups are huge.that amount of difference is massive.try talking a bench rest shooter into using pellets that are more than .2 of a gr out.they will tell you it does make a difference in poi.having tested aa field i found 95% of them were within .2gr.that is .2gr within the state pellet weight too.muzzle energy would vary from 10.68 to 11.22.these pellets will drop in the barrel 20mm or so then the next one will be tight.the old h+n,s used to be all the same fit and would group very well.i shot a group at 20 yards standing with the new pellets and it would just keep the pellets on the standard double sided bisley target.i shoot lsr and having got the highest average in my county i can shoot standing so it is not my shooting.just to clarify that is a 6.5" group.not even good enough for some kid plinking at tin cans.with the h+ns that were any good i can hit bottle tops at 50m standing most of the time.suppliers do not seem to know that there are two different weights for these pellets, just had 3 tins of 19.92,s and two tins of 20.06 which i will have to through away even though some of you say they are ok,i think not:rolleyes

You have only proved that the new H&Ns are not compatible with your gun.

I have a gun that will shoot 2' - yes foot - groups with certain pellets, and 1.5" with others.
I have a gun that used to shoot great with certain pellets, then I took it to FAC level and it now can't shoot a decent group with these previously great pellets, but instead shoots brilliantly with pellets that it never much liked before. Same gun, same pellets, but different results just due to the power change.

Perhaps it is more difficult to match .25 pellets and guns. I tried all .25s available before I found that JSBs shot well, far better than anything else, the "anything else" included, for what it's worth, some H&Ns, old ones, in yellow tins.

Unfortunately they are in Malta else I would have offered them to you, if they are of interest, I have a near unlimited supply source available (cheap).

I'm still on the 'old' style orange tins, I'm finding the odd very slack pellet that changes poi by 6inches or so. Hopefully mine will get on with the 'new' style tins when I get round to buying some.

I've just had a delivery of 5 tins of .25 H&N from Uttings - I'll check them out when my new gun arrives. My .25 Mirage and Nemesis were great with Webley Mosquito Maxim (approx 19gr.) but this ammo is history (although I do still have 2 tins left from my original supply).

the 19.92 weighted pellets still shoot well.it is only the 20.06 or so they say on the lid that are all over the place.did the chrono check tonight and found the gun was a little warm so i had to turn it down a bit.luckily it is very easy to adjust the power on these guns.

Shot 150 or so tonight, there is for sure an issue with them, 4 or 5 pellet on pellet at 30 yards then flyer..2 inches out, then back on bull for 2 more then flyer, then back on bull for 5 or 6 etc.

I would say out of 150 40 were flyers....the rest superb.

Sounds similar to my findings with orange tins, are you're results with the 'new' tins?

I had put it down to my mod clipping, then narrowed it down to pellets that were that slack that they were almost tumbling out of the breech when closing the barrel!
