Thumbs up Stainless steel Jim Baker Marauder sound mods

Hi Chaps, this is the first time I've bothered to try my hand at reviewing, so go easy

Jim Baker Marauder Sound Moderator - .22CF

Well, I've got myself a new sound mod for my .222 Rem, and it's the danglies.

Earlier this summer I tried an early prototype from Jim Baker Bullets n Guns, (he's my local gunsmith) and had a few issues with that one to start with (if anyone read my posts about that?) - but thankfully those problems turned out to be my fault, and the mod was great. I wondered about varying my load, but it turned out that I just needed to give my rifle a proper clean to bring the accuracy back!

So, after returning the prototype to Jim and having a lengthy chat about the performance, he handed me the newer, refined production version in it's silk matte powder coated, finished form and it's loooverly!

Since I bought it, the new mod has only had about 100 rounds through it, and although it's already lots quieter than the Wildcat 300 mod on the .222 before, it's become even quieter now it's crudded up a little.
You wouldn't think that would be the case either, as the wildcat is twice the size of the little marauder mod!

As for the build, I was keen on getting something that was a maintenance free as possible, and Jim has made exactly that.
The mods are 100% stainless steel, with welded stainless baffles, a really thick initial blast baffle/cone and of the usual reflex design.
The other thing that I really like is that there's no rear bush to mess around with - I'm told the way these are made they just don't need them, so there's no more barrel marking/scoring, which is fantastic as far as I'm concerned.

The size/weight of the mods is a huge improvement over others I've tried - it's really slim and lighter than what I had before. Granted, it's never going to be as light as an alloy mod, but then again I know it won't ever wear out. I think the weight is 500 grams, will need to confirm that, but it is tiny compared to the others I've looked at/tried (WC 300, WC Pred 8, T8, PES Scout) and yet still sounds really quiet. I was also quite suprised to learn that the T8 is actually heavier than these...

I'm hoping it gets even quieter still with use - that would be a huge bonus.

Overall I'm impressed with the build quality and performance, and very pleased that my mod doesn't show up as a big black blob in the scope at low mag anymore (you can just see it on 4x though..) and I love not having to think about cleaning it or having to make sure all the threads are well greased just so I can open it up next time I clean it twice a year.
Now I just stick the new marauder mod on the radiator/windowsill when I get home and that's it.

I suppose it could be cleaned in the ultra sonic if it ever needed it, but I think that's pretty unlikely...

I'll post up some pics at some point when the sun comes out, and if anyone is interested - I think it's looks frigging amazing on my fat varmint barreled .222!

I will be getting one for my .308 too this year, and my Wildcat mod will be up for sale, so if that's not a reccomendation, I don't know what is!

    Cheers - Fred
Life is short, remember - Carpae Dentum ...
Folding ceramic knives for sale - All gone, PM me if you'd like one for the next batch...
