Post DM80 6.5mm full size moderator

Since owning my 17 Rem DM80 I have been seriously impressed by these moderators. My review for the 17 Rem moderator is on this site (at the time of typing still on page 1). I then decided to go for the 6.5mm version for my 6.5x47. I was not disappointed!

The 6mm+ cal DM80's are all full size and are notcably larger than the compact mods used for the .20, .223 cals for example. Below is a photo of my 6.5mm and 17 Rem DM80 moderators.

    Maintenance tips
The 6.5mm (full size) moderator strips very easily (provided you keep it clean and greased). I clean the threads and O-rings then re-grease every few weeks or approx every hundred shots otherwise the threads can bind hard and becomes difficult to budge them. I also do not over-tighten the mod threads and in fact keep them JUST at the nipping point. I always back them off after shooting and then turn both ends gently to the thread stop point and don't nip them up firmly. This helps to keep them from binding. With these little tips in mind the mods work and last very well.

The full size mod looks the same as the 17 Rem compact mod but is larger. It moderates very well on my 6.5mm too! I compared it to my friends Wildcat Stutzen (IIRC) and Spartan reflex mod on his 6.5x47 and it was noticeably quieter by a good margin to all 3 of us including the shooter. For the money I feel these mods are impossible to beat for quality and sound moderation.
Just one point to bear in mind regarding all reflex/over-barrel mods is that they trap heat around the muzzle and after consecutive firings (depending on the calibre) can over heat the muzzle/shrouded area if you are not careful and can (depending on the barrel) result in harmonic interference i.e. POI shift, accuracy deterioration. This is a generic trait of all over-barrel moderators not specific to DM80's.

Another good job and mod by Dave Mercer and a highly recommended reflex mod.

I am looking for a new mod for .223 I want to shorten the barrel considerably and my PES will touch the stock. How much are the DM80s for .223?

I have an old one on my .17hmr and very happy with that too!
