Hi Ken, you might be lucky but Lee ball molds are less than £20 from Kranks and to be honest molds do get a rough old time of it sometimes so be carefull you dont buy someone elses knackered cast off. Also dont forget that 44 molds come in several sizes and you will require the right one for your particular gun. Best Wishes, Tim

Yup, you tell us what guns you have an we'll recommend the correct size mould.

    Else you'll be wasting money.

As an example - the so-called .44cal revolver; depending on who makes it, can take a ball size from .451" [most] to .457" [Ruger Old Army]. Trying to put a .457 ball in a Pietta, for instance, will cause you lots of grief and a bent loading lever...

Now THAT is unusual - I've never encountered such an oversize ball as that.

    .454 would be more common

Hell thanks so much. never thought of that. Imagined a .44 would be .44. Guess machining is not as accurate as it should be. that explains previos gun molds I have purchased have been too loose or tight. ahhhh.

We mean - who made it?

    Many 10- 20 year-old Pietta and ASM-made .44s are .451, but later ones are .454.

Most Uberti .44s are .451" as well.

Same goes for the .36cal - none of which are anywhere near .36 - a pal's is .383"......

You gots to remember that BP guns, hand and long- generally had the bore measured BEFORE the rifling was cut, which explains why a .44 uses from a .451 right up to a .457cal ball. Also why the Lee-Enfeld, as originally built, was called a .303" - true, the LANDS measure .303, but the grooves measure up to .316, and so do the modern jacketed bullets - .311 - .316.
