Help identifying and pricing a Webley "Junior" .177 with potentially serial no. 177

    Hi All,

I have a few pistols and air rifles my grandfather-in-law wants to clear out.

Of which there is an interesting Webley "Junior" .177

The pistol is only in a 'fair' condition for its age, the blueing isn't great and it looks like theres a slight bend in the barrel.

The interesting thing is what I presume might be the serial number - 177.

Stamped on the end of the pistol is 177, and from a little research on the internet this appears to be where the serial number is usually stamped?

The pistol also has 'J' stamped between the trigger guard and grip.

I couldn't work out how to upload photos onto this post but here are a couple of links to photos of the markings:

Any guidance on whether this pistol actually has the serial number 177, or if its simply its calibre reprinted would be greatly appreciated.

Also guidance on pricing would be appreciated too.

    Thanks,

    Nick

Hello, it's a Webley Junior from the late 1950's, the 177 stamped on the front is the serial number or part of it, remove the left grip underneath which is stamped the full serial number, take care as the grips are brittle, it's worth about £50 to £70. Others On here may know more.

    Thanks GuizeAyose,

Just removed the left grip and 177 is stamped again.

    Webley Junior

It's a mark one Webley Junior thats been dropped a few times by the look of it

The prices you have been given are as good as you will get?
But a collector may be tempted to offer a bit more due to the reg no,

Mines a 1955 and is smooth bore, you can soon tell a mark two as it has an awful
enamel finish and the rear end and grip is cast ally or similar,

    Cheers,

That could be the next collecting trend for someone that has them all, unusual serial numbers. I have a Webley Senior with the number S19000 which is listed in Gordon Bruce's book as the last of the pre war production run, who knows or is it just a round off of the numbers.

Thats a good idea about unusual serial numbers, my fwb model 2 has serial 00911 (twin towers or police). But this 1 is a keeper
