Ok, I am going to do a quick review/tell you a little more about my experiences with this rifle.
I bought the afformentioned rifle around six months ago in .22 flavour, only put around 500 pellets through her and began to have accuracy issues from the off.
Now, I went on the net, did a bit of reading up and to be honest, my issue was not that common, all I could find was many a happy shooter singing its praises.
I spent a little more time with it and put around 1000 pellets through thinking it was having trouble bedding in, the accuracy worsened???
I was talking to one of the guys down my local range about this as I couldn't figure it out, I had tried different scopes, made sure the arrestor pin was secure enough, tried several pellets and still the accuracy was awful, how could this be? It was suggested that a tune up was in order and that the stock springs were not always up to par due to quality control issues of late.
The rifle went in, came back, same problem (although the recoil was reduced significantly and everything seemed even more purposeful), maybe its me? maybe I can't shoot this damn thing??? I decided to try another type of pellet....BINGO! Webley Accupel saves the day, I was hitting pellet on pellet at 35 yards, half inch groupings at 55 yards and not one stray shot, EUREKA!!! Now I know rifles can be a bit pellet specific but this was taking the P**S, Pellet on pellet with the accupel yet struggling to get within a 6 inch group with the AA Field Target's.
To sum up; Now I have found the right pellets for the HW97, I love it, supersmooth cocking action, dead on balls accurate and really nice to look at (especially with the nickel action), BUT, this is by far the most "fussy" rifle I have ever owned. I would say to anyone that has the same experience as me to try different pellets until you find the right one, I tried about 6 different pellets and still had issues! it was only when I was about to give up and admit that it was my poor shooting techniquethat I found the answer.
Went shooting this morning, about 6am, and decided to take the 97 out...I am having pan fried rabbit for dinner, great rifle if a little fussy but then all the best ones are
I tried AA's in my new 97kt and they flew all over the place and felt realy slack when loading, luckily i had a tin on H&N target and they were great.. if i only tried the AA's i would have been in same boat.. great rifle though and im gonna get mine tuned at some point.
Bought mine in 1998,brand new, fabulous rifle,Best results ?,aafield, closely followed by accupell. Can you credit it!![]()
i bought mine and sold it within 2 weeks i just couldnt get away with the pellet issue,i tried a few pellets but it just didnt work for me
It's funny how they're so fussy, I've never known anything like it!

tried it out at 27 yards and i was hitting 22 pellets the gun is spot on for a springer hardly any recoil and very quiet tony wall at sfs has done a great job on this gun
I picked up my s/h s&b tuned .177 hw97kt earlier today and to say im impressed is an understatement. Accuracy is cock on with jsb's and aa fields and the rifle is very smooth i wnt onto bag 3 pigeons in the wood i was zero'ing next to. It makes a nice change to shoot a springer dont get me wrong pcp's are great but a little 'dead' if you get my meaning..

tried this gun at my local gun club today useing h n ftt pellets and the groups were spot on at 25 metre putting pellet on pellet and i hit every knock down target out to 45 metre no problem good work done by sfs tony wall this gun has fired less than 300 pellets so it will get better cheers
It's a great gun no doubt about it, I prefer shooting springers to PCP, takes me back lol
Now she's settled down... spot on, I managed to pick up a walnut thumb hole stock at my local range and it looks lovely with the walnut and nickel action! I do like the synthetic stock but you can't beat a nice bit of wood, it looks really really nice, subtle but nice.
Accupels are still pellet of choice with consistent sub inch groups at 35yds, AA feilds...still all over the place?
She knows what she likes ;-)

I bought a HW97 in a CS700 stock last week from this forum. It has the V mach kit in it and so far I have put the better part of 2 tins of pellets through it at the range. I love it so far. It is shooting a consistent 11.6 and its smooth as you like. Compared to my Theoben rammers - its not as harsh as the Evo and lighter than my SLR. Its an extremely accurate gun.... certainly a lot better than I am!
