Can anyone confirm if the .20 cal 40grn V Maxs are flat base?
The 39 Sierras aren't performing in my 1/10 twist so want to try a tip with a larger bearing surface.
Cheers
Gran
No, they are boattail.

doesnt look the case
It looks like a BT to me on Midway, the Hornady site it doesn't hence the question.
Any suggestions as to a .20 cal 40ish grn flat base bullet?
I am going to try Berger's next & just hope mine doesn't like Sierras

Ordered 200 Berger 40grn Match grade tips from Norman Clarks, these are the discontinued ones but he has quite a supply.
Once I know it's bullet fussy & nowt else I can then at least have a while before I have to sort another bullet.
I am thinking if it shoots these it will also shoot the Varmint ones which are similar but due to not being able to be posted I can't get hold of readily.
Gran
Hi I think you will find 40g V-Max can be got in BT or FB
Howa Varmint 204 Ruger,243win,308win
39gr Bilitzkings look like spitzers in my new Kranks catalogue - near enough?![]()
The 40 Bergers are all loaded up ready to be tested.
I found the barrel was also touching the stock so this may have affected the groups.
hopefully the next batch will be better.

Very unusual to find any 20 cal that does not like 39gr SBKs.
If your rifle likes the 40 gr VMAX I have a few about that I will be quite happy to swop for 39gr Sierra Blitzkings. My 20 ( 1 in 9) prefers the 39s. 40s are ok but not as good as 39s. PM me to arrange.

Happy....
I have been up to the farm I use for zeroing & it seems the barrel floating issue was the culprit after all.
The 39s shot a small group but the Bergers shot a tad better.
I think I'll keep the BK's for the meantime,Thanks for the offer though.
So off upstairs shortly to load up some more ready for a hopefully christening session tonight.
I'll sort some piccies out tomorrow of the rifle.
Cheers for the replies chaps.

Hi Gran.
Is your barrel a Lother Walther tube - I noticed it is a 10 twist which is uncommon in 20 cal.
Have you crono'd your BK's - just wondering what velocities it was doing with the tighter twist.

Hi Alan.
Yes a Walther @ 22in
No, I didn't take the chrono because it could have turned into a 10min session if they didn't shoot acceptably.
I will now load some up & go out with a bench & chrono for a better session.
I came close to taking the loopy off this one & sticking it back on the .243 but stuck with it & now it's paid off.
I now need to start a scope fund for the .243, it just doesn't look right with a Whitetail classic on top
Gran
Glad to read that you've sorted it out.
